I bought a ten inch when I had heck getting a walleye just shy of 10lbs to turn his head into an 8 inch hole. I was fishing perch with a #6 aberdeen, what a blast!  I left the gaff with the rest of the crew when I went exploring, won't do that again.  Of course when they came over to see what the commotion was about I heard "what, no perch?". Gotta love ice humor.   I have heard the trout on Canyon Ferry will sometimes turn and go back down in a 10 inch hole. Something to think about.

I go with a 6" pushing through ice that's more than 15 or 16 inches get's tiring!

If you think about the amount of ice you are going to be moving:

4" - 12.5 sq/in
6" - 28.25 sq/in
8" -  50.25 sq/in
10" - 78.5 sq/in

Blue snow is better than yellow snow
