Gonna try to make it out but it's up in the air as of now. Not only would I like to get out and fish but would like to meet some fellow shanty members. One question that is of importance to me considering I won't be able to get any bait until Saturday. Is there anywhere I can get bait around 630 or 7 am this is when I would be planning on being there. The local bait shop near me opens at 6 but it's a two hour drive so I'd rather get bait near there. Thanks for the help and I'm hoping to be there.
If possible? Try to get bait the night before and just keep an air hose running on them. I got a decent plug in one at Walmart for like 15/18 bucks. (Duel hose w/stone) I've kept about 4 dozen shiners alive in a small cooler bucket (about 15" cube inside dimensions).
Pretty sure that Pipiones Sport Shop in Turners Falls is open at 7am. Not the biggest "pike" shiners I've ever seen, but it fits your needs.
Hey I am hoping to get a few holes cut. I am willing to chip in for time and fuel. I have an 8" Mora but my shoulder is hurting and It sucks getting 10-15 holes in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know where you are coming from but Flaggs is right off of rt 2a on the way to the cove and would be open at that time. They carry bait.
It's that time again for the annual Ice Shanty Bartons Cove gathering! Last year we thought we were celebrating our tenth year but it was brought to my attention on some video date stamps that the first gathering actually took place in '08 so this year we get to celebrate our tenth anniversary again! Foul weather date Sat. Feb. 11 Where: Bartons Cove on the the Conn. River just off of Rt 2 Gill, Ma. at the Power company campground. Use Chapell Auto Gill, Ma for Mapquest/GPS (directly across from the Cove entrance)There is a large parking area that can accommodate 50 + vehicles. It is an easy commute from anywhere as it is directly off of Rt. 2 not far from Rt. 91 in Gill MA just above the Turners Falls dam. For mapquest etc. use Chapell Auto Gill, MA. You can expect to catch everything from Perch to Pike and all things in between. Last year a nice Walleye hit the ice! We have iced pike at every gathering with several getting their first pike ever. We also had at least two people who iced their first fish ever!. Years past have been a great time and this year should be better than ever. If you can only make one organized event this year, this is the one to make!**Put and Take Raffle:** We are going to hold the put and take raffle again this year. The way it works is that every one that can brings a prize for the table. Something that maybe was the wrong size or color or something you bought and even though it works just fine you don't use it. We got some really awesome stuff last time and some good gear got re-purposed to people that will use it. I remember an electric auger was given one year, some nice camp chairs along with some other great stuff. We even raffled off 10" Paula the Pondie one year. A couple of guys who wanted to participate but didn't have any thing to bring put a bottle of liqud warm up on the table. Really anything a sportsman might use. It will be open to the first 52 people that come. You do not need to bring a prize to participate but it is certainly encouraged. I will draw the winners at noon (12:00) and you must be present at the draw table to win so every one please come in at noon for the raffle and a group photoSo, Who's in?stripernut c-kane otzi REDGIANTBaitBucket mossboss sangell BFFlynn51 KillerFish wbfishboy PeterSaloom rickyrigedJschumacher Jwise RickC fishing frenzy MoreTroutPls big scott Boy
The above was suppose to say I am in on the raffle. Does it have to be fishing related.?
I plan to get out with my son and join you all tomorrow. Look forward to seeing everyone there and spending a day fishing the Cove!
Does anyone need extra traps? I may have an extra set of 5 that I wouldn't mind loaning out for the day if someone was trying to introduce someone to the sport.
Just for giggles I stopped over the cove today and measure 8 inches of good ice with a couple inches of crap on top outside on the main cove. They have not been messing with the water level to badly this year and the edges were firm.See You All Sat. !
Nice fish Will. Hope you aren't as cold as you look.
Congrats. Beautiful fish. Are the Bullheads and giant salamanders biting too?
