Beavertail or Frenchtown ponds
« on: Dec 25, 2016, 10:53 PM »
I want to take my young boys ice fishing and am thinking about trying Beaver tail of Frenchtown pond in the morning.  Does anyone know ice conditions and fishing information for either one of these?

Hey Bowman501.....Welcome to the forum !! Your boys will love hitting the hardwater on either of those places. If you get 2 more posts you will be able to access the "Reports & Conditions" section where you can find the info you requested plus info on many of the bodies of water in your area.

Check out these 2 links. They will help you understand how the two MT sections of the forum work.

Hey Bowman. I'll be at beavertail this morning with my daughter and friends. Feel free to come say hello and I'll try to help out.  I'm in a gray Dodge Ram.

Fished for about 2 hours. Kids caught a handful of perch and a bass. If you are going make sure you have a spring bobber for the perch bite. Kids loved watching the spring bobber bounce and setting the hook. Fished with one of those rattle spoons. Ice is great in the back bay where I was.

I did end up going to Beavertail. It was the first ice fishing trip for any of my boys.  We slayed the perch and caught a few nice trout.  We used maggots on a jig head.  It was great. We are heading back there on Friday.

I am also wondering about the ice on Frenchtown.  Was hoping to take my son ice fishing for his first time.  Does anyone have any info?  thanks!

Never fished Beavertail Pond.  Heard there are some nice trout...  Can anyone confirm that rumor?

They plant it with retired brood stock and hatchery raised triploids in addition to the regular 12 in planters.  The brooders aren't pretty and wouldn't eat one to save my life but they are big and fun on a ice rod.
