Not ever fished there, the lake looks pretty intimidating.  Especially for a two hour drive.  I keep hearing talk about Mile Arm Bay, say I got on 6 from 37, where along there would I go to gain access to good fishing?
My daughter and I have only been out four or five times, making a trip like this would be hard on her if the ice was bad or no fish could be found.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Rebel,
I fished Black Lake last few days of January, and we measured ice at 11 inches. The first 3 foot of shoreline was kind of broken up, but no problem getting on. We fished out of chapmans parking lot. It is a baitshop that posts under ny reports. They have a big parking lot, and you can actually drive right down to the ice. They are on Black Lake Rd. off rt.37 2 minutes from town of hammond.
Going back next weekend. Last year we did the best on perch, and panfish about 400 yards off shore, not far from chapmans. Also a lot of northerns. No huge fish, but we seem to catch a lot wherever we have gone. Good Luck. Dave

Hi Crappiedaddie,
Have been only ice fishing for a few years now. Have an aquaview, but no vexilar. Never fished crappie. Do they always suspend? Can they be caught near bottom, like perch.
Don`t have my map in front of me. Milearm is across from chapmans right?  Me and a buddy will be out next weekend. We had a blast last time. Dave

Dave, If you access the lake at Chapman's you'd have to cross the lake, hang a right and go quite a ways. You go through The Narrows and Mile Arm opens up to the right. Last year there was a shack or 2 just inside the bay.

Fished Rollway Bay all day in 10-15' of water on Saturday before the rain fell....measured 16" of good ice.  Saw (2) trucks get on at Rollway and head up towards the island.  The bite was very slow....caught 18" & 30" pike , (4) crappie and about (10) very small perch.
