If we didn’t have the dec were would we be today. I think there doing an excellent job in ny state. For what were paying for a sporting license were getting a lot in return. The dec purchased the land at lime lake so we can have access to the lake. You can put in a small boat there but it does require a little work. If you guys don’t like the access, why don’t you buy a piece of land and put in a private ramp. The problem at Rushford Lake its all different. If the town had the money to fix the dam we would have access to it all year. Lime and Rushford Lake are private and we have limited access to them. Don’t complain.

This'll get some conversation going I think..DEC is doing a pretty good job with the fishery to be sure and they have some small issues...but I'd love to see them do something about the comorants they've got around Lake Ontario.....they need to do more than they have in the past, perhaps an open season on them for anybody old enough to use a shotgun...this'll get me sent to the grumpy old men shanty REAL quick...Esox....

Just a little tidbit on the Rushford lake dam problems. I saw in the paper this week for Bids to be accepted to repair the gates at that lake. When the job will come out to bid is uncertian but looking like spring of this year.

Ray, bob and others, the issue is stocking a lake and limiting acces to vistors.  The DEC does do a good job on MANY issues. But this one needs revision, why should they be able to have special treatment on a state subsidized area. If they want the fish allow access.
Pretty simple in my view. Rushford does regulate its lake for no toliets/ cuttys on the lake, other bodies regulate the use of gas motors froozen or soft. Why is this lake the exception????
Its not a problem only with the dec, homeowners asscociations, law makers and land access

Maybe if someone here knows the facts of the stocking program on Lime it might ansewer a lot of questions. What I want to know is;
1 Does the DEC still stock that lake?
2 What species are stocked there?
3 How many of each species yearly is placed in that lake?
4 Is the money for the stocking program Private or state funded?

Buckski
I hope to get a true ansewer on this. I am not here to argue with anyone on this issue. My comments were stated for a simple reason, that being there are many other lakes to use other than fighting the boat traffic on that lake. The other is simply that there is no real good area to launch any kind of boat there. Thats it. With that being said I can say this. I have first hand knowledge about the re-interduction of the Walleyes on Silver Lake. It was funded on private money for the first couple years. More of an experiment, if you want to say it that way. I know of many a farmer who had ponds that were used to raise the fry to fingerling size then by fall they were dumped into Silver with the help of the DEC. After a couple years and a shocking program the DEC noticed that some of these fry, fingerling's were surviving and decided to go ahead with the program on there own. After the 'Eyes took hold solidly in that lake they found them to be self sustaining and from there on have not had the need to stock this lake. My question is. Do the 'Eyes in Lime reproduce to the point of not needing a stocking program? We all know the Tigers are sterile and can not reproduce but is there still a program being run to stock that lake yearly? Or has it been abandoned like many other programs because of lack of funding. The reason I ask these questions and state these few facts is that some of the stocking programs are privately funded. Some by clubs and some by Cottage Associations. If we knew the facts that would ansewer the question Why there is no launch or why not.

I don’t see Lime Lake on the list. I think it’s a waste of time stocking trout in case lake. We could have a nice crappie fishery there if the anglers got together on a project to get them started.

Why at lime lake is there boulders blocking the dec launch.I heard rumors that it was because locals complained they didnt want any big boats on the lake.Now with the boulders in place the only thing you can launch is a cartop or canoe.Now if you live on the lake you can apply for a membership to the private launch that cost 80dollars your first year 60 there after.There are alot of big boats on this lake even with the dec launch closed and the speed that they allow on that lake is rediculous.Now the dec stocks this lake and has to be open for fishing under that rule.Why should this lake only be open to residents to launch there boats?If you even wanted to pay the membership to get the key to the launch you cant because you have to be a resident and i dont think this is fair, the dec should stop stocking it or open up the launch its my tax dollars helping stock that lake!I should have the right to fish it!

-Perchwisher
I used to fish many WNY lakes with a cartop boat, but I stopped because I got tired of getting thrown around by the wakes of big boats , the operators of which did not seem to have any respect for other fishermen and a complete disreguard for prudent speed. It is a shame that these few inconsiderates have to ruin it for the rest of us. I beleive that we shouldn't have access restrictions to our favorite lakes, but currently there is no way to weed out only the idiots.
   I also think jetskis are the worst offenders and are the most inciderate toward fishermen. They are at times more annoying than a swarm of mosquitos.
