Modified Mora.. 8" bit..
« on: Dec 03, 2016, 11:19 AM »
I'm in the process of changing up my mora 8"..

Because every pound counts, I weighed it before I started, just under 4lbs without the hand crank, or the blade guard..

How much does a 8" Lazer weigh, or the Kdrill?

On the left is my 8" as stock Mora, my modified 6" Mora, and my Eskimo 8"...

I'll post a picture of my 8" Mora V2 when it's done...

If that bottom right is purple I vote that one.  Because you know it's custom.

Vs if I see a black auger I think lazer.  Blue mora....  you get what I mean.

I would have to guess you use a drill.  What adapter do you use?

This will be going on a clam plate with a gear box..

I was eyeballing caterpillar yellow as a color.. I would only paint the steel ends, not the aluminum middle part..

I'm already not allowed to touch the oven..

Thanks, something I've been wanting to try, didn't take off as much weight as I hoped, but it did some, and I'll never need an extension..

Another plus is, I'm pretty sure I could set up any mora or Lazer to work with the shaft if I'd rather down the road..

If I had a good way to sharpen Lazer, I would try them for a while..

Search around people sharpen laser blades around me so I am sure you can find a guy here in michigan to do it!  Anglers point marina does sharpening of nils and laser blades but I don't trust with my nils yet I think it cost like $10 in store with tax for laser blades to be sharpened .  I think bottom line bait and tackle has a guy that does it down river to so search around 10 is better then 39.99 every time you need it sharpened. same with the nils it cost around 30 to 40 with the shipping to sharpen s nills auger.. lots of guys around here sharpen scissors and chain saw blades so i am sure they do augers just ask it never hurts to do so.. that or look into the scary sharp sharpenING system? A curved block and correct sand paper will get them scary sharp in no time flat.. as  for a curved block check out dura block for autobody work might work or even a round file in the right  coursenses of file.  But you are right mora's are the easiest to sharpen.. and dont jam up like lasers do and have always done.for me

Yeah, I've sharpened a set of Lazer blades once.. It took a while because I didn't have the right tools...

A slow turning sanding drum would be ideal...

I sharpen all my own stuff, and some friends too, especially chainsaws lol...

Yeah me 2, one little fire and some smoke because I thought it was a good idea to sterilize a piece of driftwood before I put it in with my fish tank...

That was years ago, still ain't over it yet...

Still use it to harden paint on bike parts when she isn't around. I just have to remember to turn it off next time..

Should see if harbor freight has a osilateing spindle sander for sale and get 20 to 25 %off it??  Dad's a wood worker I got a rigid sander down stairs I think it would sharpen the blades nice if I can get some 400 800 1000 1200 and 1500 ,2000 ,2500 and even 3000 trizac paper for the spindle sander.. maybe I can get a couple foam pads to wrap in those grits around the foam pad to use for sharpening the laser blades.??
