Finally got my boy Hunter out today for his first ever Ice fishing trip. I took him to the same place my dad started me out, just a cove with small junk fish in it. Even more amazing all 5 of us made it out today including Mrs. Chum. It started real slow, got there at 6:30 and went until almost 9 with nothing, then a few hit and spits. The three girls went shopping and Hunter and I were all alone. Finally the fish started to bite, he caught 13 or 14 pickerel and was ecstatic. I am one proud dad and he is one happy boy. Mom will flip when she knows she left and missed his first fish. Little guy made it until 2:30, 8hrs for the first time not bad.

He didn't hardly set the jig rod down except when a flag was up.

8 hrs on his first trip!? As a father of young kids myself, that's amazing! Apple doesn't fall far from the tree - future fishing machine there!

Earl, Great story of getting the whole family outdoors ice fishing. I bet now on he won't want to stay home.You were wise taking him somewhere with alot of action catching pickerel rather then waiting on trout to bite. Awesome!

Great job Chum, I love your post. I got my 3 year old grandson out earlier in the week for his 1st time. That last photo of your son is similar to how my grandson looked on our ride home. Again GREAT JOB
