sled pulling machine
« on: Nov 26, 2015, 06:04 PM »
Hey guys,
There's this motorized rig pulling a sled that's on a youtube video for "Go Deeper" smartphone sonar. Does anybody know what it's called? And where to buy one? Here's the video:

I was hoping you weren't talking about that fish finder thing?

So...in order to use t you have to download their app, drop the thing in the hole, put your phone on the ice and then fish?
Somehow I see a problem with  leaving my phone on the ice to use their "gimmick". Wonder how many "test" phones got kick into the hole or soaked when fish was pulled up? (Of course it wasn't any of the tiny fish caught in the video.)

They usually come with a water proof wrist mount for your phone.  To to mention. There are plenty of mounts for your phone which you could bolt to your sled to keep it safe.  Just sayin.

Interesting idea, god help you if you run out of juice far away from the trail head. Can't imagine pulling that pig through the woods. Biggest hurdle for electric vehicles is energy density. Gasoline has an energy density of 46 MJ/kg. Lithium cells 9 MJ/kg. With electric you have to haul 7 times the weight to get the same energy capacity, you still won't go the same distance because of the extra weight.

You are right about running out of juice... Did you check the web site? If I read it right it looks like a 6-8 hour run time and some of the models have a small generator to keep you going... I like how they set it up to keep the batteries warm with the waste heat from the electric motors... Not the right rig for everyone, but it would work great for me!

I am somewhat familiar with the units. I attended a ski patrol seminar a few years ago where a demo unit was present. I did try it and found it pretty useful. I had contemplated building a similar unit with a briggs or honda engine for towing skiers into the back country. Interests changed and time doesn't allow at the moment.

I have seen them called track sleds before. You can find a few different examples if you search "track sled" on YouTube. Also a little wheeled rig that is powered by an auger powerhead.

No, FishermanTim, I was talking about the "track sled".

So I guess I'm going to have to bribe my welding buddy to rig me up one then, since nobody seems to sell them. :( That auger-driven cart looks neat too, but it would be useless over here after the first snowfall. I need something with a track like Yvon Martel's MTT-136, who unfortunately doesn't sell them yet.

I was actually thinking of doing something like this with the motor and drive off of a tracked snowblower.

That's it! That's the one in the video! Man, they're kind of pricey though, at about $2000. You can get a good used snowmobile for cheaper than that.

Even old sleds from the late nineties are expensive here, from 1500 to $2,000.

That is a Russian 'Snow Dog'. I have been toying with the idea of building one since the Russian guy was here and posted it.

the russians make a homebuilt tug. yes, think long cold winters and homemade hooch. the seem to use the gamut of tracks- they even seem to cut down long ones into short ones.

the only drawback from what i have figured out is that they dont like deep powder. the contact patch and weight is all wrong. the sled int he back acts like an anchor and the 'caterpillar' as they call it digs in.

and curiously, the US Military did something similar....

I'm looking for a little tractor to pull my flip and me out on the ice , 1/2 mile tops. We're using my Icegator 27v lon for power but I can't be bothered to disconnect the lower drill unit. I just attach the auger to the tractor, it pulls me out, I take it off and drill my holes and then put it back on to pull me back. Not too heavy please.  When you have this designed please let me know.

We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

But YOU have to pull that out on the ice. I want something to pull me AND that.

I saw a Lawn & Garden showing these at the Wisconsin Deer Expo earlier this year.  I'd love to buy one but I have this little thing called a "Wife" that might stand in my way.  Darn.

Back in the  60s they made a gas version called the hus-ski , at some point it was  made by bolens , it was a little tough on the arms
But I was a little guy when I drove one
