Baptizing a newbie.
« on: Jan 18, 2006, 05:25 PM »
Two weekends ago I took my girlfriend icefishing for the first time up to my brother's shanty. On her very first flag she caught a pickerel. My brother jokingly told her that she needed to kiss her first fish  :-*  or she would have bad luck. She refused and put the fish back. 5 minutes later she caught a nice big pickerel and as she ran back into the shanty to get the tape measure she fell into the hole in the floor and got her leg wet up past her knee  :roflmao: . She didn't let that stop her from fishing. She then took her sock off and placed it above the woodstove to dry. It fell on the woodstove and caught fire  :woot:. She ended up fishing with no sock, a wet boot and a day full of funny memories of her first ice fishing experience. She said she couldn't wait to go fishing again.

Nice!  My wife would have stormed off the ice mad if her foot got wet.

I thought it was against the law or something to bring the gf/wife fishing, unless of course you needed the shanty tidied up a bit.  :o

I bring the wife sometimes and it is a good idea for a couple of reasons. reason #1: gets me at least 2 extra trips a week with no nagging  reason #2: She knows why I am obsessed with the sport and #3:I had a very roomy shanty   ;)2 ;)2   :roflmao:
I dont bring her on my "bigger" trips. Usually to a spot where we can get a fishfry worth of perch. Not on the adventures dont want to hear the nagging if it takes a while to find the fish.

Now this is just not right. The time spent in the shanty is sacred. The offering of bait to the fish gods, the drinking of the beer, it is almost a religious experience. Anymore talk of this had better be conducted on the Hunting boards in the "RUTTING" section.  :o :callcops: ;)2

I can only get the wife on the ice in early and late season, she hates the cold and complained of being frozen when it is -3 outside. She does enjoy fishing and as long as a buddies wife is with us, then she can handle it...she is also a believer in flush toilets

Took my grandson out icefishing for the first time 5 years ago when he was only 3 1/2 and after setting up the shack and popping 2 holes outside for the tip-ups the little bugger stepped into one of them when i had my back turned for second. Ended up hanging his boots, pants and socks over the heater for a few hours until they dried out. We got skunked too

My gf goes fishing with me, but she doesn't do much fishing.  We have been together for about 3 years, and has realized that if she wants to see me, she has to go fishing with me!!!  She reads, does crossword books, or even cross stitches.  She does have her fishing licence, so I do set out extra tip ups which can only help my chances.  BUT, if she would ever get wet while ice fishing...we would be headed home.

Had one of my cousins come up from MA a few years ago for the Rotary Derby his first time ice fishing.  So to mess with him I gave him my 12' surf casting rod to jig with  ::) ......what started off the weekend as a joke turned on us when he was to only one to land a fish all weekend!

What exactly is a trout fly?  I can't think of a good comeback if I don't even know what I'm being called.

And I still insist that the bed head was caused from sitting in the middle of a mayfly hatch for like 5 hours.  I can't find a hair product on this planet that made my hair the way it was when we got off the water that one night.  I looked like Medusa. :pinch:
