Older tc300 used an autolite 255. We have been using an autolite 2974 in newer tc300. The 2974 is a extented tip 2 cycle plug and the older 255 is a plain small engine plug.

Look on the engine for a model number.  More than likely it is a tecumseh.  With the model number in hand you should be able to get someone to give you the proper plug type.  You may even be able to the the info from the tecumseh web-site or a local small engine mechanic.  Make sure you know which plug matches your model engine.  Putting the wrong plug in could destroy your engine.

This could happen if you put a plug out of a nash rambler in it!!!! I am a Factory authorized dealer for tecumseh and have been for over 30 years.  Thank You!

Hey toothfish relax.  I wasn't questioning your advice.  You didn't make it very clear in your post that you were a techumseh repairman.  And maybe your right but plugs with the same diameter/thread are/were available with different reaches. Too long and you get a hole in your piston.  Maybe this isn't the case anymore but it still a good idea to put the plug that the factory recommends (in this case I guess that would be you).  I'm no small engine slouch myself.  Repaired/bebuilt many motor cycles, snowmobiles, lawn care equipment, and automobiles.

Are you sure?  I don't think the Native Americans spelled anything and if they did it was with pictographs.
Anyway I see you caught me with the fat fingers.

Just joking with you.  After all you started it.  I know several and I don't think they particularly care either way.  The only ones I hear making the stink don't have a drop of native blood in them.  And FYI I don't have myself but have family and friends who do/are.

toothfish, how far back can you go and use  an Autolite 2974 in a Tecumseh 2hp. I'm trying a Champion Easystart now and can't tell much difference from the stock plug. My auger is three years old. Thanks in advance.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

You can use a 2974 (autolite) in any tc300 tec. engine.  .030 plug gap.. this is normally preset out off the box. I'm not a Champion fan.  Bosch, NGK, Autolite, AC, but not Champion.
