True , skim should have been building on almost all ponds , but this wind not allowing it to happen. It is supposed to die tonight.

It was 20 here. There is ice on the small lake near my house that is always late to freeze. It's a good indicator of fishable ice elsewhere.

Gardner is usually the last to lock up in the Colchester area.. I checked red cedar and Sabin pond this week (Feb 13)... red cedar had 3/4" with a small area of open water in the middle.... Sabin's dam is under construction with no fishing signs until construction is done.. Maybe next weekend?? maybe..

Colder in nw ct. 15 degree difference between Goshen and Danbury on my drive last night. Was close to freezing last night at aro 6:00 pm. Looks like precipitation is starting to change up there now. May be good day for ez up.
If you can't play nice, get off the ice!

Same with me, midweek looks good with cold temps in the forecast from Sunday till Wend . Most of the reports I am getting now it's a bit sketchy on the usual lakes in the NW.

<----- Big smile here. No work this coming weekend, which makes the smile even bigger. Now I just need to decide on a destination. If I do nothing else this hardwater season, I'd like to catch my first walleye at Gardner (Bug, I'd like your help here) or Mashapaug, and my first pike at Mansfield. Gotta have goals!

I can remember reading your guys' posts from last year about meeting up late in the day on Fridays and thinking something like "Man I just need to hop in the Honda at 4:59:59 pm and fly down Rt. 2 as quick as I can and see if I can meet these guys!" Obviously I never made that happen but I'd like to this year, if possible. Jumping on the ice at 6 pm and chasing eyes in the shallows for a few hours seems like I nice way to end a busy work week. Plus it's only a half an hour ride home when I'm done, and the Plum Tomato is on the way!

You want to get there early and punch your holes if you can, as not to spook to many. Then follow them up to the shallows.

It's 18 here right now, and headed down fast. Hoping for single digits at dawn. We're going to need a lot more of this before any walter trips on Gardner are happening. If and when those trips happen you are very welcome imsafanct.

Traveled up to west thompson today. There was 3-4 in of ice and the fish were biting but I definitely paid for them. The wind was cutting me up and i had to chase my sled a couple times. Hopefully next weekend we've got more options

17.4 ova here eh.....
u think this wind hurts water that has 1-1.5' but bad edges? was scouting today(no good news) , mostly really bad edges. I could see leaves swirling around underwater and the ice floating up and down .
ps unless its good news don't tell me. I will sleep tonight thinking ice is forming at an alarming rate

The wind was shifting the ice around and a Crack formed about 20 feet from the edge. Was slushy but got across fine. I'm sure if it hits single digits tonight it will take care of the edges in no time

The wind killed my area again today. Small local pond still wide open and choppy even with the temps. Hopefully it dies down tonight.
