Didn't want to spend the money to buy a "pack" for my Showdown Troller, so I had a small soft pack cooler that I made a wooden holder for the Troller to sit in, fits inside the cooler, and used a swim noodle cut to size  for the transducer float and a faucet ring seal for the float stopper adjust.  Works great, cost me nothing!  Have about 4 or 5 homemade ice rods.  while I have caught just as many fish as the purchased rods I have, I also get a little pleasure knowing you don't have to spend a ton of $ and still have workable stuff!!  Also had a one man tent style portable shack that just sat on the ice.  Had trouble with it wanting to blow away all the time, so...  i built a a foldable sled bottom for it, and permanently attached the portalbe shack to it.  Had hole "lid" built in, just like the store bought stuff!!  I used it a couple of times, but as I "grew", it became too small!!!  To be honest, I only used it a couple of times (got the shack from a guy who quit ice fishing, paid 5 bucks for it) and had gone back to my 5 gallon bucket for a seat, and a 1inch by 6 inch board, about a foot and a half long to put my feet on!!  The 2 man portable I have now, was purchased by my wife for me, as she thought I was nuts!!

Here is a couple of things I made last year.

I am always tinkering with something. I would rather build it than buy it, even if I can afford it.

And this is why the ice fishing sport has evolved. People love to make new gadgets and it takes off! Interesting to see what is new in text 10 years.

I also love to make my own stuff. It keeps me busy even if I can afford equipment,  I will try building it myself.
When there is ice on the lakes, I never make employee of the month!
