It sure was a battle on light line and rod.

And for all you guys who think the yellow colored line doesn't work in clear water. I have all my light jig sticks spooled with 4lb Cortland yellow line. 8)

Made it out this morning to a nearby lake. Got a later start than planed but I was heading solo so I didn't have anyone waiting. So I got to the ice by 7:30 and headed out. I have fished these waters many times during open water but not hard water, so didn't know were to start. After drilling about 5 holes I found a desireable depth that I thought I could find some fish in and within no time caught a nice perch. I fished in this hole from about 8:30 to 11 and this is what I ended up with. I caught several small gills and sunnies and even a couple small perch.

Made it out on the ice today with BigRed and gave it a go for some gills or crappies. I got to do something today I had never done before and that was the fish were about 5-7 feet below the ice and the water was clear so I was watching the crappies come right in and hit it. It was a pretty cool way of getting them. 8) Around noon time the wind was horrible. We had to anchor the sleds down to drill holes and even at one point both lost the shanties to the wind only to get blown into shore.

Below is a picture of what I ended up with for the day. Lance donated one to my pile to make 7 crappies and one nice gill on the day.

After getting home and starting to fillet the fish out I notice this one had a hook in its gill with a little braided line attached to it. I am not sure if it was the one Lance gave me or one I caught and just didn't notice it. $:-\$

Well made it out after work for the evening bite. The weather was great untill the sun went down and then the winds came. We stuck it out in the wind and fished till dark. I caught my first pike on my jig stick. 8) A little guy around 15" but put up a great fight. Didn't get a picture of him but here is a picture of my limit.

Well made it out today on Schroon for the last trip of the year. Gotta love the weathermen when they say 8-10mph winds and all we had all day was steady 15-20mph winds with some stronger gusts

......brrrrrrrrrrrrr.. . Anyway my nephews managed a few small lake trout and one nice perch. Time to put up the icefishing gear and get out the ultralights......Here are some pictures.

Surprisingly there was only a handfull of people besides us on the ice. I think people have just given up thinking the ice is bad but infact it is not. The southern end were we were had 15" , last sunday the narrows had 17 1/2 and I heard the northern end has over 20" still. The ice is rock hard! You could fish Schroon till April.
