No, they are more like, actually are, in the bass family.  I'm going to make a chowder with them.

Thanks Harkness for the info. I have seen white bass in Vermont, but do we also have white perch?

Looks good to me.  I love pike but some people say they are strong tasting as well.

I made a great white perch chowder a couple weeks ago. My only tip is to add fish last minute and serve once cooked thru. 1st time I made chowder cooked fish to long and it all fell apart. Enjoy!
Come on get on the ice fish!!

I have made chowder with perch, a tip is to put the fillets in whole and break them up to your desired size as they cook, it will keep them from cooking too quickly and keep them from drying out or getting rubbery. As for white perch, I will jump on the, they are great eating bandwagon. Also, if I think the fish is going to be overly "fishy" I give them a little soak in milk before cooking, the fat in the milk will grab onto the off tasting oils the fish might have. cheers
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there would be a shortage of fishing poles.

Im starving now!!!!!!!!!
My Biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.

Tight lines and be safe.

We were surprised to catch a few white perch along with yellows while fishing on 'Magog Saturday, so we were able to do a side-by-side taste test at our shore lunch.  Yellows won hands down (at least with the two of us).  The whites were good, but yes, slightly fishy.

Mr. & Mrs. Brown Trout also joined us.  4½ and 3½ lbs.  We caught them within 10 minutes of each other at mid-day:
