Question about Tru Fuel
« on: Feb 10, 2014, 07:11 PM »
I am thinking of switching from mixing my gas to using tru fuel. I have a StrikeMaster MagnumIII auger. The tag calls for 25:1 gas fuel mix. I can only find the 40:1 or 50:1 tru fuel mixture. Can I use the 40:1 with out damaging the auger engine???

You could do the math and add the appropriate amount of oil to the mix.

All I use in all of my augers. The nils and the polar fires start right up virtually first pull every time.

My old Jiffy 30 that calls for a 24:1 mix runs better than ever at 50:1. The newer oils and mixes lubricate so much better now. A good 2 stroke oil mixed 50:1 will work in just about anything. I'm sure the True Fuel mix would be fine.

I'm wondering about that 25-1 ratio,  Most of the information I see on strikemasters say 40-1

Jeff I have Amsoil Sabre and run it at a 100:1 ratio in my Jiffy.  Love the stuff.  I have a huge bottle if you want some.

25:1 is very rich,,,40:1 should be fine but you can add a little if you want. bennys sells the Oregon synthetic oil in the pillow packs,,just add a little.  I think the 25:1 is the mix they want you to use to break in the engine

I have been using TruFuel 50:1 in my Strikemaster Mag2000 for the last 5 years.  The Tecumseh motor says 24:1. I use 3 or 4 cans a year and haven't had any problems yet. The TruFuel is handy for road trips.

After years of fighting to get it (Jiffy yellow 30) going and keeping it going I switched to that type of fuel. Huskuvana 50:1 fuel found at a outdoor equipment dealer. Got the jets tweaked and it runs great. I did put a few dribbles of oil into the tank just to be safe. Says the stuff it good for 2 years when opened.

I use the 50:1 craftsman premix fuel they sell at sears and while expensive, it is great.... High octance, synthetic oil, no ethanol, and it has stabilizer in it. Im on my second year using it and never had a problem!

I bought a husky brush cutter last spring and the husky dealer said to run the new husky gas in it and double the warranty from two to four years. It is pricey but gets rid of the carburator issues in using the ethanol gas. I am running the non ethanol gas in all my small two cycle motors now. My old eskamo calls for 24:1. I did the math, you add another 3/4 oz of good 2 cycle oil per quart of this gas that is 40:1. I have not had a chance to find out if I can run a lower oil mixer in my old auger. It starts great with the 95 octane.

The mix you had in it prior to the trufuel was making your nils very sad.  Of course me drilling some sand with it probably didn't help...doh!

So do you guys put a little bit of the carb cleaner spray in the fuel before adding to the augers tank?

Lowe's carries it Bill. Most lawn care places carry it too. I've been using this stuff in mt 2 strokes for a couple years now. Great stuff. My new auger is 4 cycle... I'm using the 4 cycle Trufuel 92 octane, no ethinol. Hope to see ya on the ice.

An FYI...  Trufuel just came out with a gallon can besides quarts!!  Quarts were $8 ea. and gallons were $24 at True Value!  Have only seen Trufuel in 40-1 and 50-1.  Good Luck All!!!   O.P.

One of the guys from the CT board reminds me constantly that the cheaper alternative to trufuel is the non ethanol gas you can buy in NY for a little more money than pump gas with ethanol.  Much cheaper but I like having a can of trufuel in the sled.
