Hood's Hardwater.....2/4/06....Bass n' Pike... p.5
« on: Dec 17, 2005, 06:30 PM »
Met up with Chenbasshead and pikie for some first ice trout action this morn. After a nice long walk in the dark we got set up and Zach started things off with this delicious looking brown.

We got settled back in then Matt's flag went up...we began to run to it and I glanced back to check my spread and had a flag also...DOUBLE HEADER! :woot: .... We each get our fish and realize we had iced two very nice browns...

Went a while with no action and then my buddy mike stopped by with refreshments and good luck....got a flag and Matt ran it down and landed this nice surprise catch Rainbow

There were some long breaks in the action so we took full advantage and enjoyed some fresh 8 point loins and burgers...here Zach is chillin by the stove.

We did get another 2 small browns, and missed a couple fish who dropped the baits....total tally was 5 browns, 1 rainbow, and a few perch. Heres a shot of the end results.

.....Could not have asked for e better first outing for the season, great company, good fishing, tasty food and cold beer  :flex:

ice was sketchy...5-6" in some  spots...2-3" in others...spring holes still welling up.

Hit the ice again this morning with my buddy Mike in the Adirondacks. Parked at 6 and dug in for the long walk. Got set up by 730 or so. Drilled another hole for jiggin and just about to wet my spoon, FLAG!! Run over to find the line looped on the tipup and the leader snapped. Retie and back to jig, just  wet it and another flag goes up, hook the fish and the fight is on.....10 mins of circling and runs, we ice it. SALMON! 26"

Retie again and back to the jiggin chair, not so fast....another flag pops halfway back and we are runnin again, Mikes turn. Get to the tipper and its screamin, one of those where the whole thing is shaking and you can hear the spool vibrating from underneath.....Hooks the fish and we are in for a long one....back and forth, circles runs, i think it tried to jump once, keeps buzzing past the hole, boy its big, BAM! on the ice we get it....26.5" SAMMY!.  :woot: Pic does it no justice, it was a slob!

Land the fish and look up to see another flag flying, lord knows how long its been like that..... My turn....set the hook and have a decent fight and land a nice brown 22-23" or so, quick release. Go back and retie more and once again head back to the chairs cuz we really wanna get one on the rod. FINALLY get in the chair, for about 30 seconds or so and WHAM I got one hooked on the ugly stick......

Little back and forth and out comes this nice Brown...quick unhook and release, didnt get a length.

After that we had a break in the action so we sat back and relaxed, ate some food and hydrated....(we really needed to). Sittin there jiggin and chillin a flag next to us pops. Go over set the hook and miss, minnow is ok and as Im puttin it back down a BIG brown passes right under the ice and takes the bait, set the hook a couple head shakes, gone!  :%$#!: Fresh bait and back to the chair, look back and the flags up again, set the hook and its on, good 10 mins and its at the hole, keep getting its head in but cant get a grasp, couldda easily gaffed it 5 times but I wanted to release it. Head in the hole again and Im gettin a grip when the line parts and away he goes. AWESOME!. Back to relaxing mode in the chairs and we get a flag. Mikes turn. Fish comes right to the hole and then goes berzerk! Took LOTS of line, very far away, didnt wanna come back....finally gain some then more and more and the fish is atthe hole, round and round it circles til it shows its head and on the ice it goes. !nother 26" SALMON!!  :woot:

Also caught a 16-17" brown and a perch. Total was 3 Salmon and 4 Browns. Had many other flags where the baits were stripped or mangled. Also some flags with lots ofline taken out and nothin there. We had a big spread so lots could have happened while we were runnin to some of the far ones. I ran out of hooks and bait.....had dead and chewed up baits on some of the rigs at the end......hope we have that problem everytime.
