Couple Pike 16 Dec 05
« on: Dec 16, 2005, 10:04 PM »
Did some tip up fishing with a buddy today and managed dinner for both of us.  One fish is 35" and the other 34".  Nice fish with plenty of attitude!  It was a very rare 35 degrees above zero, so fishing was really comfortable! ;)

My rig that "rarely" gets out due to the extreme cold.  Today was unseasonal and fantastic for warmth!

Ooh good looking pike Barleydog, they look nice and healthy, full of fight I bet. 8)
Nice when you can still use the quad eh? You defiantly have less snow than me.
The quad would be stuck in no time if I tried that.

UPsavr,  I filleted them bonless.  Took the "Y" bone out leaving great tasting meat!  I split it 3 ways, for 3 different tribes.  Grumps fillet method in the pike forum is a good method illistrated. ;)

WW,  It was rare!  It's like spring outside and the snows melting fast!  These are the days I'm satisfied with global warming. :D  Planting bananas in the backyard this spring.

nice fish BD.  Looks like you guys in Fairbanks don't have it as bad as in the Mat-Su.  The weather has been terribly warm.  In the 40's plus the last week.  It was warm a couple of weeks ago as well, then it got cold for a few days and warmed up again.  All the snow is gone and the lakes are really sloppy.  Perhaps I can talk my wife into letting me head north for a few days after Christmas.

Sleepac,  I was hesitant due to the weather about bringing Barley out.  The ice had standing water on it, but the temp. was dropping....  He's not the tough ol' waterdog he once was, more house dog. hahaha

Icymike,  Try again this year eh?  You get away, and I'll try to free up my weekend.  I have kids too, so it will work anytime. :)

Nice pair there Barleydog!  How do those two stack up to what you usually pull out?

Nice stocking hat too, keeps the noggin warm out on the "Frozen Tundra" ;D

Not cheap eh Nate!

Those fish are a little above.  I'd say average is around 29-31" or so.  Oh I know you like the hat Grizz....  They are "ALASKA'S TEAM" according to the daily rag in Anchoragua!  Maybe they'll beat the Bears this weekend and help your boys out?  or choke and wait it out for next year.....  Reggie Bush would look good in the green and gold eh? ;D

Thats a very respectable average Barleydog, I see now why you placed in one of the tourney's here  :)

There does seem to be a fair amount of Backers in ol AK, but there's a stonghold of Vike fans around too (Sa Galley :D ).  I hope the Pack stomps Da Bears that way we won't be facing Reggie Bush twice a year ;D.
