Anyone fish Lake Matherville?
« on: Jan 08, 2014, 10:09 PM »
I'm heading out there to give it a shot.  Hopefully I'll have something good to report.

Anyone else been out there?

I know a lot of people that live there but none of them fish. Good luck.

Had my bass boat out there a few times this fall and the bass I caught were all healthy 2+ lbers. The deepest water is in the open basin straight off the launch, however, a majority of the structure is visible and hugs the shoreline. Should be some piles in 8-10ft that would be dandies. I have been meaning to try myself, how did you do?

I haven't made it out there yet.  I was hoping to get out there today.  I guess I need to find out about this lake pass thing first.  Prayforice, can you shed some light on this?

I was with a buddy from Matherville each time I was out and he told me to not even worry about it. Only thing I saw was a hand written plywood sign on a pole saying sportsman's pass required. He explained to me that you go to the gas station (right before the lake) and you can buy the pass (I think it's like 10$ or so). Every time I have been out, no one else was around. HND welcome out to Sherrard!

I have no problem paying for the pass.  I'd rather donate $10 to the city in hopes it gets used for something useful than to out there illegally.  As long as you aren't required to be a Matherville resident to fish it, I'm going.

OK, I just called the Little Store of Matherville and got some info.  It's $18 for a pass, and it's a February - January pass.  Right now they only have the 2013 passes.  If you bought one now it would expire at the end of this January.  You'd be best served waiting until Feb to get the 2014 pass IMO.

Good info, and I agree on purchasing the pass. I am going to try and get out there soon, going to be out of town this weekend, but even a weeknight trip might not be a bad idea.

So how many people can go with someone who has a pass? Maybe if three or four of us get together each throw in $5 or $6 for a pass we could try it out without having to wait till Feb. Thats three weeks away and who knows what the weather is going to do. Just an idea.

Good question Matt, I'll see if I can find out.  Would be nice to only have to purchase a pass or two.  It's not too big of a deal if we all have to buy one as long as we can find some fish ;)

With the 3 of you living in Sherrard, would be a good place for all us to get together and fish some time.

Sounds great to me too.  I have a 7th grade son that plays travel basketball so I don't have any free Saturdays for the next 2 months.  Maybe a Sunday afternoon, or even a weekday when we can all get off.
