Hey Buddy
For perch Ive always used a small jig and a splitshot about afoot above the jig   Use a worm or minnow for bait Drop it to the bottom and lift it about a foot off bottom and jig away!!
                                                                                         Good luck

  • Ice Fishing Rulez!
I have found the most effective method for consistently catching large burbot(and I have experimented LOTS) is to actively jig a 3/8 - 1/2oz Buckshot Rattlespoon(hot orange)tipped with a single minnow or pinched off minnow head.  Lots of other lures work but I have tried many others over active fish and this set-up has out fished everything else 2-1.  Watch your electronics because despite common belief they DO suspend.  I have caught them as far as 16' off bottom.  Jigging will easily outfish a set line 10-1 based on my experience.

Oh, and also, fish them at night ;).
