Adirondack Get-Together...Who Would Come?
« on: Dec 06, 2005, 07:19 PM »
Okay, this idea came up in chat one night, and I decided I'd like to organize it if possible.  I was thinking maybe Tupper Lake would be a good place, because of its diversity (walleyes, pike, perch, lakers, salmon, etc...) and central location, as far as Adirondack lakes goes.  If I were to organize something for maybe mid-February, who would be interested in coming?  I won't do this if the interest isn't shown, but if you guys will come, I will make this happen.  ;)  Tell me what you think!

The Tupper Derby is the first Saturday in February.  We would love to have a get together at that time.  Last year I was the announcer and prixe chairman and recognized Ice Shanty but was so busy I didn't get a chance to meet any of these people.
Applications are now being accepted and mailings will start in about a week.  Anyone wishing an application can get one from our web site at

So what do you guys think...Should we set this up to be DURING the Northern Challenge?  Or would it be easier (parking wise especially) to do it on another weekend?  OR... Do you have any suggestions of other lakes we could do it on?  Let's make this happen!

Personally, I dont think our "formal" get together should be at the challenge. Theres potentially a lot of money on the line and theres gonna be a ton of people there. Space can be tight there and it could be difficult for everyone to meet everyone else and fish together which IMO is the reason to meet up. It would kinda stink for people to make the trip then have a little time at the end of the day to just say hi. Thinking back to last year, it was a mad house the morning of the tourney... also I am not sure if everyone wants to fish a tourney, some of the guys here are hardcore jiggers and the challenge is definately a tipup event. Maybe make it the week before the derby so some people who are fishing it can do a little scouting?? I would much rather fish with other members at our own little shindig.... my 2 cents  :)

ideas for a get together.... lake colby, tupper on a different day, raquette lake (closer for guys comin from western NY)

Alright, well I'm going to wait to see how many people are in, for now anyway.  BUT...as of now the Get-Together will be Saturday, January 28, 2006 on Tupper Lake, NY.  Aside from the state launch, is there anywhere else on the lake we can meet?  I'm thinking the state launch on Route 30 would be best, because of size and central location...but are there any other places?  There's a park on the north end of the lake, right?  Glad to see the wheels are now turning!  ;D

You are more then welcome to use the parking and launch site at the Club.  Lake Simond has finally frozen over and the temps last night got to -3 F.  Should be lots of ice.

Zach,
I would be interested in coming. Could you give me directions from the Thruway. Also, any hotels, motels in the area as I would be coming from Newark, NY (between Rochester and Syracuse). Thanks

Hey packer...im pretty sure zach is out fishin... An easy route (not sure if its the most direct)would be exit 31 at utica then rt 12 north to alder creek where rt 12 splits to the left and rt 28 to the right...take 28 toward oldforge (26 miles i believe).....gonna go through old forge and keep goin on rt. 28 another 35 miles to blue mountain lake..... stay on rt 28 through blue mountain and go over the mountain toward long lake...should be 11miles from blue...... in long lake your going to make a left onto rt.30 at "HOSS's Country Corner" (all way stop signs, stewarts on the right)......22 miles or so on rt 30 will land you in tupper....its around 120-125 miles from utica to tupper.......now we just gotta make a meeting spot concrete  :)

may wanna check if going toward watertown then heading east is shorter

I'm in Zach....we'll have to do some scouting and try to find where the good fishing is.  I've got a few friends that fish in the big derby every year, and its nothing we want to mess with.  I don't even think we should try to fish after the derby, its such a big deal.   I think you date looks good.

Hood,
Thanks for the directions. We stay in Old Forge every fall so getting there is no problem. Could you advise me of any hotels/motels in or around Tupper? Thanks.

Here are a few:

Red Roof Inn:  Rt 30, Southern Tupper
Shaheens Hotel:  Rt 30:  Mid-Tupper
Timber Lodge:  Rt 30:  Southern Tupper

All are within about 1-5 minute drive to the State Launch.  Red Roof and Timber Lodge are closest to the State launch, Shaheens is more 'up town' going toward Saranac.
