I was also in on this project, and it was built in my shop. Let us know what you think. By the way it is 8 by12, and was built by 3 18 year old kids.

That is one sweet shanty. The decorative wall plates for the electrical definitely adds to the ambiance.  ;D Good job guys. Hope your going to show more pics this season with some fish in it.

Its kind of hard to see. The inner rod which is welded to the tire arm rotates inside a pipe, we tapped a grease sert in there to help it rotate smoothly.

We are using a 12v power inverter. Its enough for lights and a small TV, dvd player, nintendo, radio, or whatever.

When the battery gets low, we usually just charge it up off a pickup for a while. Alot cheaper than a generator, and quieter.

Man, that's a SWEET shack. I'm going to build one over the summer for next year, so I can bring it up to college.  I wanted to make one to bring up this winter, but ran out of time during summer due to prior commitments.  ::)

That is like a Hilton for ice-fishing!!!!  I'd take that thing anyday!  Guys, did you use luan for the inside paneling in there?  We built a cabin addition to our trailer this last spring and used it as well... worked pretty good - and cheap!  Good luck using the permie on the ice!  I'm sure you'll be MORE than happy with it!!  ;D

I believe the inside paneling was just called "one-side finished plywood" or something like that.

I cant wait to get out fishing... im sure all the work will pay off ;D

Holy cow. That is a beauty. I would love to have one of those. The thing that scares me out here are people that like to vandalize. One of these years I guess. Nice job.

Hopefully we can find a nice shanty community where friendly fisherman can help keep an eye on the place.

Awesome guys, really looks great.  I've been waiting for updated pics of your project since DRabbit first posted early pics some time ago.  I'm looking to build something similar over next summer so I'll be in touch if I run into any problems...

Good luck with your project!, after building the house, here are some things I would recomend doing to make it all go more smoothly.

-make a list of materials and buy everything at once, I felt we ran into alot of problems by starting things before we had all the materials, kind-of common sence.

-carefully plan things like wall studs, and roof trusses. I would recomend buying roof trusses. We crafted our own and ran into problems, we arent exactly pro-carpenters either though...

-keep weight in mind. Its a tricky battle; strength and durability vs. lightweight

if you have any questions about the house, im sure one of us would be happy to give you an answer.

hey bucketmouth-  Sphynx is right.  Definately draw all your plans out and don't start the woodworking until you have a complete materials list. Make sure you use 100% silicon for EVERYTHING, or you'll end up doing it twice or even three times. Sphynx and I debated a lot over the summer wether to use 2by4 or 2by2 studded walls and floor braces.  I would recommend 2by2 because it would be more than sufficient in strength and would be much lighter, and sphynx is never going to let me hear the end of this one. lol. ..........never

Nice job on the shack, we're all invited to the housewarming party, right?  Just let me know, I'll bring the bait.
