Can a guy still make it through without an auger extension? Gonna try the north end for some perch tomorrow.
I couldn't without my extension today.

Hey all.  I'm taking out my wife and three small kids this saturday to try to get them their first fish through the ice.  I am thinking either Shields or the north end.  I'll be driving my van and obviously don't plan on driving on the ice.  Any suggestions as where to go and easiest access.  Thanks very much for the help.

You could park on the north dam or at the Shields pump house. Ice is still thick around 40".

its getting soupy lots of melting going on.imo the best plan if your driving a van is to go into the park and fish somewhere in front of the boat launches.you don't have to walk far. 20-25 fow.0 chances of getting stuck and ruining your day with the wife and kids.park in the parking lots and walk out.just as good of a chance catching there than anywhere.

Heading out today and tomorrow. Just wondering where you are all catching fish this year? I hear people talkin about catching 30+perch in a day! I've been out 20 times and I've caught 2 fish all winter at the north end. I'm not looking to invade anyone's spots I just need an Idea of where to go.

We fished north end of the lake, east side a few times. Didn't catch all that much.

was out last Monday and hit the perch in the middle of the lake out in front of the east side house on the north end , was shocked to find them out in the middle at this time of year usually they begin to migrate shallow by now.

anyone headed out this last weekend of the season?
i couldn't believe how little # of people were out last weekend. we caught 14 perch @ the north end and saw a ton of walleye on cam which is rare but had no takers other than the perch.

I went for the evening bite. Perch kept biting hard until 7 PM. They are in 8-10" range. Some even swallowed the 1/8 oz spoon. I have been using unbaited lures since two weeks ago. They are almost in late ice mood.

hit the south end sunday and like toon fisher said had a lot of fish hit my lures with no bait on. In fact the two big walleye keyed in on my lure and not on my bait I snagged them under the jaw as they hit the spoon. perch still needed to be enticed but had a great afternoon first time ive seen a school of walleye come through my camera was some fast furious 15 minuites

Was out yesterday in about 20 ft of water. Fish are fairly active. Seen lots on the camera. Only managed to get 6 perch and 2 jacks but the one jack was 6ibs. Beautiful day to be out as the season is coming to an end.

Good morning on the lake. About 10 perch and a pike in a couple hours. Thanks to the gents that waved us in to fish with them and let my son haul up a jack on their tip-up. Great to meet new people who are willing to share their fishing holes and stories.

Went out to north end on Wednesday  night. My buddy caught a couple pike and a walleye.
Fished at Shields today in 25 feet of water. There were 6 of us. Almost all of what we caught we keeper perch. A couple well over a pound. We also caught a couple walleye. It was a great day.

Got out today to close the season out, but it didn't go down quite as I had envisioned when I booked the day off a couple weeks ago. Cold breezy day, holes were freezing over fast, and the fish were lethargic. The small perch were biting off and on, but the bigger marks on the flasher would just follow the hook up and down then disappear. Switched to tip-ups after lunch, landed a couple smaller male pike, but no sign of any bigger females on the move. I didn't fill the auger or the propane tank as I was planning to empty them out, but with the cold temps and thick ice both ran out faster than planned, so instead of staying for the evening bite I headed home to warm up.

That's a wrap on a somewhat lackluster ice-season for me, here's hoping open water goes better.
