Ice Fishing record Walleye on the auction block
« on: Nov 22, 2005, 09:18 PM »
The press up here in Saskatchewan are carrying the story-It seems that the priest who caught that record walleye through the ice is putting it up for auction on _ _ _.catch-n.com. With all the money going to Katrina and tsunami victims. There is a reserve bid on it and I can't remember what it is,just know it's a little too high for this boy.  :)

Its crazy what people will pay for mounts, fish and big game. I've heard of people around here selling trophy bucks to Americans for $5000.00 or more. And thats in U.S. funds, whats that about,,,,,$100,000.00 CAN. ;D

Do you need a permit or license to sell a mount? I was told you could get fined for "trafficing wildlife".

I know you do for heads and horn mounts and I would presume you do with fish. They want to be sure it was taken legally and also discourage the sale of wildlife parts etc for profit(which is illegal).so they really check into this sort of thing. I hope someone on here fr Sask. can give us an answer for sure  but I think it wouldn't be a problem in this case as the money is going to charity.
I've never had a problem like this -trophy's seem to elude me. ;)

Right now The Great Canadian Agribition is going on all week in Regina, Sask. And I have talked to a few people that have seen the record walleye there, they have info all about the priest, the fish and the lake. :)
I saw the record walleye for myself when I visited Tobin Lake in Aug. Wow, you have to see her up close to believe it :o.
It might be the angle the photo was taken but that walleye in the photo looks different, then the one I saw. The record walleye has a spoon hanging out of her mouth, the one in the photo don't.
One thing is for sure I won't be bidding on her. ::)

WaterWolf, Is the one you saw at Tobin displayed at Twin Marine? I saw the Walleye there but its not the same fish, that one is the old record, 18.06 lbs.

Awesome fish, both of them, any day that record could be broke, there have been lots of 15 lb. +  Walleye's caught this fall at Tobin, and would bet 90% of them are released. Makes you wonder why there aren't slot limits on every lake in the province, it sure has turned Tobin into a great Walleye and monster Pike fishery.

The Walleye measured   36.5" long with a 22.5" girth,  18.4 lbs.

Everytime I get a bite at Tobin those measurements go running through my head!!!!!!

I know it was a small Len Thompson spoon but have been unable to find out the color. Len Thompson Co. sent him 184 spoons (18.4 lbs..)and he has autogaphed some and put them up for sale-money going to charity I think they are on the website I posted earlier. :)

Apu I saw the big walleye at Tobin Lake Resort. The lodge owner told me that it was the big one the priest caught, even a photo of him under it with the fish. Yeah he was caught on a 5 of diamonds 00 Len Thompson, with small hole minnow on it.
He caught the fish while going over his sermon for the Sunday's mass.
Now you all know what to do to get the lunker, eh?  ;D

The yell/red- 5 of diamonds is Len Thompson Co.'s top selling spoon color- combo. I know lots of guys who jig a baited "00" Len Thompson for everything under the ice.
