closest I ever get to church is icefishing.....
I love that feeling you get when you set the hook on a good fish knowing that you have light line on and it could pop off at any moment .
Seeing that first tap tap tap, GOT-EM!
Watching the mark on my flasher moving up toward my jig, and knowing I'm gonna get bit.
Fishing with my dad, who introduced me to this insanity 50 years ago, and watching him ice some nice fish.....
Being an old timer with 50+ years on the ice, hitting a lake that I haven't been on in a few years, but I still know it. Relatively slow trip but taking decent fish 2 or 3+ times faster than the youthful local experts when they stroll over and ask what I'm doing different. Show and explain in detail the approach and technique, they're puzzled and consider it momentarily, then tell me it's not the established way to catch fish on this lake, it appears I'm going about it wrong. They storm off when another nice fish gets tossed on the ice as they sit back down and glare/mumble at me. Hard to keep from busting out in laughter, only hope they consider the info and give the out side the box approaches a chance one day. We're a helpful bunch by nature but sometimes you need to shake your head and simply laugh a bit at those not yet ready to assess the situation. Truly, predawn through sunup, the anti-cabin fever aspect and actually being able to still get up and enjoy going
