I'd say it matches the truck pretty good. The girl looks happy, maybe it's because she knows she'll be out of the wind soon and in a warm and cozy shanty.  ;D

We used the Tri-chairs a few times but I decided to build a bench to see how that would work out.
It will be two less things I have to bring along. I have some soft foam pads that I can glue down to the bench.

Hi Everyone, I made a pole holders for my Tip Down Shanty. I cut a piece of 1-1/4 PVC pipe to 14 inches long then cut a 5 inch long slot into the pipe on both sides so it would be adjustable for the lenght of the fishing rod being used. A short piece of PVC pipe was placed inside the pipe so the wing nut can be tighten without cracking the pipe or forcing the pipe to bend downward. Also a small piece of foam was glued inside the pipe in front to help hold the rod tighter. A 3/16"x 4" carrrage bolt holds the pipe under the bottom of the bench with a wing nut for easy adjustments and also swings under the bench when not in use.

Thanks for the nice comments! P Meyette, nocod, blackmer826 and ASATMillerbluegill.
Where I fish I'm the only one with this kind of shanty and I did stand out among the crowd of shanties with the tongue way up in the air.
It's so easy to move it around even on the ice, it worked out very well for me.

Great build Beeler.  I have been thinking of building something very similar that I could use to sleep 2 guys in, but I would build it 6.5' x 5' or 5.5'.    Building a bunk similar to yours then a fold down one above.   I am a little worried about stability though.  Do you think it would be possible to do this?   I also have questions as to how yours holds up in the wind as that is part of the reason for building one.  My otter drives me nuts if its over 10mph wind.   Hope your still on the site and still following your thread.

Hi Wolffpack08, the size shanty you want to build should work, just a little heavier. The wind is no problem at all either on the ice or pulling it down the highway at 65 mph. If you notice I put corner bracing and that makes the frame very stiff. Don't know what you're planning on using for the outside to cover the foam but, my boat shrink wrap is holding up very well. Also make sure that you use square tubing on the trailer the width of the shanty, look at posting #23.
 Good Luck!

At the end of the season last year I was driving off the ice pulling my Tip Down and when I got near shore a tree branch jumped out and punched a hole into my shanty wall, so I thought I would fix that today. I cut a piece of foam larger then the hole and glued into place. After using 60 grit sandpaper to the edges of the poly I applied contact cement and waited for awhile then pressed the poly together. I tested many different glues but contact cement worked the best. I then used a heat gun to the shrink the poly.

Hey Beeler,
Can you tell me how your windows worked out for you. Did they stay thawed out ?
Thanks in advanced.

Hi Wyo Ice,
Both windows worked out great for the winter and had no steaming on the inside of the shanty. But during the summer I notice a little condensation between one of the windows. I left it alone and I'll see what happens this fishing season.

I was wondering if it is critical to use the cedar for the center wood. It makes a lot of sense to use it, but I'm not sure how readily available it is out here in the Wild West. I haven't really looked for it though...

 Thanks Again Beeler

Wyo Ice,

You could use clear pine and apply 2 coats of polyurethane on the frame before sealing the plexiglass on.

Hey Everyone, I sold my Tip Down Shanty today (Feb.12) Some might be wondering how much did I sell it for?
Well, I built it for $400 and sold it for $825.00, but with a lot of enjoyable hours building it. I still have my Otter Cottage that I bought last year that I also like. I enjoy building things since I was a kid so next Fall I'll build another shanty that's brewing in my head.

Thanks for all the input and nice comments.
