I wish i could help you out catching walleyes through the ice from Monksville, but I can't even help myself. That seems to be the one fish that eludes me. I have tried ice fishing Monksville before daybreak and after sunset and i still have never caught one. I usually try out from the bridge and use rapala jigs or other jigs with no luck. I will be out there a bunch of times again this year until I can actually catch one from this place.

I've seemed to try everything short of jumping thru the hole and trying to find a walleye. A vex or underwater camera should help ya out.

I second LH for Walleye,  and perhaps Swartswood too.  I tried Monksville a few times but never got one,  that place is tough

Monks can be tough but so can any other lake or res.. You have to put in some time and find them or pattern them.
As for the best time your best bet would be from the last 1/2 hr of light on. I've caught them at mid day but that isn't the norm.
Good luck  ;)

Was out fishing on it December 30th last year(ice wasnt thick though)...Almost made it out Christmas nite but the risk was too high...Instead fished Upper Greenwood that had safe ice...For a typical ice fishermen probably safe in first or second week in january to go out on.

Hey Mark,

There is a guy in Hamburg who repaired the transmission on my truck awhile back.  He had a pretty impressive shop and was a GREAT GUY!  I can't think of his name.  Any chance you know who I am talking about?

Thanks.

Mark,
Thanks for getting back to me on this.

I don't think that is who I was thinking of.  The name of the guy's business is his name.  He primarily works on Transmissions for race and street cars.

Thanks anyway,
Walt

That cove is the only 1 I've ever actually caught fish in. Where the creeks come in seem to produce fish.
