Just got the app on my i-phone and was wondering if this will work for ice fishing?

The software doesn't know (or care) that the water is frozen.

It's pretty general, but it does give you a sense of what the lake bottom is like.   It doesn't show rock piles and hidden depressions or or small contour changes.

Not sure of your location or where u fish but i have it on my phone and it's certainly the best $ I've spent on fishing to date.  Mine shows 1' contours, and many other features.  I had a handheld garmin before which I don't even bring anymore ;)

The lake I fish the most has a lot of detail, however some of the smaller lakes I hit once in a while are missing a lot of their structure on this app.

I love it!!!   The only bad thing is that I bought it for $10 for USA last year and then starting fishing Simcoe this year and had to buy the us/canada suite for $15.  Would have been nice just to charge you 5$ for an "add on", but it dose not exist.   This app has helped me with my Walleye fishing this year in NY, BIG TIME

For $10, it's a great value.  I was shopping for a hand-held GPS for exactly this purpose in the Fall, learned about the app and got it instead.   Just wanted to mark some weedlines and dropoffs so I could find them on the ice.  Marked them last time had boat out in Sept w/ the phone.   Worked very well.  Maybe not the extreme detail of some chips, but I'm not sure it's much less for my lake.  A great tool for great price.

I could not agree more! For example I found it much more accurate for Oneida vs the small lake next to my house. I still think it is a great tool to use. As far as I am concerned for the price you can't beat it. I don't even use my lowrance anymore. Just for conviency reasons

Yes, it has a 1' contour for Oneida. It is almost just like the map chip.

They use DEC maps for most small bodies of water, real surveys and detailed maps for larger bodies.

This app is great for the $. It is spot on for most of the bigger lakes I fish. I have a hand held with a Navionics map chip in it that doesn't hold a candle to this $10 app.

No reason not to have it.  I didnt even have a phone, but wanted that app.  A buddy gave me his daughters old out of service htc droid thingy.  Bellied up to some wi-fi spot, downloaded my area through my google account, Boom, Awesome.  So now i have a small pocketable  gps that also takes pictures!  Now if only that thing could make calls.

Couldn't agree more.  This app is worth every penny.

Good luck!

That App will NEVER replace a real GPS, so put your Lowrance on Ebay :o

When your tracking make sure you shut it down when your where you want to be it Will kill the battery.
It is a great app Ive used it on LG Otsego Oneida and Cando been within a foot or two every time on the flasher.
Smaller bodies though not so much but if you fish them enough you can at least mark your spots.

Love my navionics app. It's what sold me on finally upgrading to a smart phone. Larger lakes like Oneida have detailed 1'  contours. Since that's where I fish most its great for me
