Sioux City Area Fishing
« on: Mar 01, 2013, 12:49 PM »
A buddy of mine was talking about heading up towards Sioux City from Omaha tomorrow a.m. to do some ice fishing.  What's the word on lakes in the area?  Ice conditions?

I've fished Bacon Creek, and some ponds in NE Nebraska.  Ice is 8-9" (not a guantee) and the bite has been good the last 2 weeks.

Looking at weather on the way.........this will be the last weekend of safe ice in the this are IMO.  40s and 50s with some fairly significant rain/snow totals.

Open water coming soon.

I plan on going tomorrow again and probably putting my stuff up for the season.

good luck!

Trout are always bitingj ust about anywhere in the big part of the lake, you can drop a minnow down 5 foot (or less) in 10-25 FOW and catch them (or use a tip up w/ minnow), u can find them down towards the bottom too, they are just about everywhere, electronics really help........I've been catching some decent crappies/gills as you get into the creek and back in the creek aways too.

Let me know how Deer Creek is.  I've been there 3 times this year and only catch gills with an occasional bass.

Never caught a crappie there ever.

gill after gill........mostly small, gets boring.

I hear ya.  First thing in the morning is gonna get my limit of trout on the early morning bite.  then go back in the creek and get some gills.  then around 130, hit deer creek and smack that too :)
