Very nice bass, I can't wait to get a good one through the ice. Only one so far and he wasn't much to look at.

Really? 1 inch? i hope you werent too far of shore! I fished on 2.5-3" earlier in the season, and i was a little scared, a lot of the time..haha, at 5'7 175, im not exactly the biggest guy out there, but the ice was creaking and water pushed up out of the wholes a lot more than I liked... Those are some great looking fish though!

I believe you troutslayer but you are a ballsy individual to be out on 1''.  I wouldn't do it even on strong black ice........and I think you are a little bit bigger guy than myself.

I'm 6'2" 220 and I know for a fact 1 inch of ice won't hold me... It's sketchy enough on 2.5-3". Idk how big you are but that sounds like a bunch of B.S.

i know that one inch can hold you im 6'4 240 and i drag a 3 point deer across a beaver pond that you could see the ice going up and down and cracking steady. but it was alot easyer the dragging it a mile around the pond :)

Its good when it is making lots of noise! It means it is making ice! In years past I have been the first on  willoughby  many years as I grew up on the lake!

Good black ice can range from 180-230lb break strength for 1 inch of ice and has an exponential capacity above that point according to test done. So its possible (dumb as heck) for a grown person to be out on an inch of ice. However any minor increase from that 1 inch makes the story more plausible. if it was 1.25 inches all the sudden the capacity goes to 280-360. and 1.5 become 400-520 lb capacity on good black ice. So I would not say he is lying I would generally agree that it was not 1 inch, but very well could have been close to one and still hold him up. All that said ice ranges from that high of 230lb cap for 1 inch down below 50lb for other types of ice, which is why the safety guidelines recommend 4 inches of ice as all the safety ones are based on the 50lb capacity.
