Who survived??
« on: Feb 01, 2013, 01:50 PM »
Well. pleasantly surprised that my shack made it through the winds just fine......Still on blocks and ties are tight......Everyone always gives me a hard time about tying down in all four corners a 7X8 heavy shack, but I bet some are wishing they did the same.  How did everyone make out????

My shack came through just fine.  It is in a bag in my basement.

mines in the trunk... in my opinion, hardsides are not worth the hassle anymore.

I agree with you.  I had a hardside on Long for several years.  What a PITA.

Plus, they do not fit my style of fishing.

Yea when mine isn't in the basement or truck, it's out on the ice. Something about a permy that would kinda make me feel obligated to fish that one location all season. I saw one out this morning stuck in 6" of ice... poor bass turd.

Ours was fine. We just moved it ahead 20 feet and blocked her back up. We had not tied her down and thought for sure it was on its side.. The shack down aways from ours blew across the lake...

Glad your shack made it.  Like some of the others I switched to to portables.  I have 2 and both are safe and sound.  With my work schedule I can't always tend to a permy properly.  I am glad to hear that peoples' shacks made it.

I went and put mine out on cold stream today and I saw a few that were scattered. Still good ice though which I was happy to see!

Mine is fine. Had blocks on 1 end sink in 6" and 1 tie down stick floated to surface. Other than that all is fine. spent a few hours in it this evening  Jacked it back up and got a few smelt.

You know what would suck? You take the time to block up your shack, drill the holes and secure it down and so forth, then have some other guys shack come flying down the lake and slam into yours? Didn't happen to me but was thinking that would be bad.

That's my favorite type of shack, too!  Mine's in my sled, headed out to find some ice tomorrow.

My two perm shacks are still tucked tight on the beach at my parents camp.  Only issue was a branch fell and punched a whole in the side of the tuff-r insulation I used for siding.  Nothing some silver heat tape can't fix.
Checkin traps and making sure there's FRESHBAIT!!!

to help prevent blocks from sinking in and rain making a melty mess around your shack you need a flat block plank and drip boards.. Look at the lower side of the picture below to see what I mean!

Mine had the blocks melt into the ice on one end. I moved it to the southern about 200' and reblocked it and tied it down. 13" of black ice on most of the lake now.

Our shack decided it would be blown over onto its side in the wind storm. Haha that was rather funny to see when we hit the lake the other day. Got er back upright. Luckily all that was broke wasnt the lantern globe.
