Ok, The worst of things is over for us. It looks as if the rain is done. Temps will begin to drop around 1 pm and begin to freeze at around eleven pm. The shore ice is gone or under water from the lake levels actually rising a considerable amount but I took a walkaround on the ice in front of the house and it appears we still have 5 to 6 inches of ice. By the weekend the shorelines will have re froze and things should have tightened up allowing some lakes to be fishable. You can see in the lower right corner where the existing ice starts and how much the water level has risen. Once this all tightens back up, I think we will be ok.

I think most lakes that had a good amount of ice on them will be fishable by the weekend.

Joslin had ten inches. The lake I live on had 8 in front of my house. Whitmore had 6 to 8.

Thanks for the update swamp. How was the quality of the ice? To have only lost three inches isn't to bad for all that rain.

They are saying between one and two inches here tomorrow. At least there is still hope for the weekend.

All the runoff into the Clinton River here in Waterford actually raised the shore ice onto the shore a couple feet at the launch I checked this afternoon. Shore ice was iffy but I could still access it. There was still 6" of ice out from the shore. I'm confident it will tighten up in a day or two. There was water on the ice as well. Know your lakes fella's and keep the spud handy.

Went out on the lake for an ice check. Looking good after the warm spell! Here is a pic of the shore, melted shore ice, and lake ice. It's skimmed over but that is all. By the weekend it should support a step across it to good ice.

There is a solid 5 still!!

Ahh...looks like winter again. And the open water you see is a river that flows in this lake and opens up during every warm up with rain.

your lucky swampbuckster..i checked a lake last night in allegan co. and it will be awhile before i get back on.supposed to get another 8+ inches of snow now to.dam it!!!

Just remember everyone that the winds did some funky stuff. Some lakes may have open water, some may not. Play it safe!

In Oakland Co. Wolverine has opened, but som3 areas are ok, be careful. Most lakes in this area are the same way. Wherr the wind pushed the cap to shore you can get on, but elsewhere you need hip boots to reach ice.

i weigh 129 pounds, i can icefish on almost anything, but ive only got out 4 times this year. this has been the worst year yet.
