MUNISING BAY
« on: Jan 16, 2013, 03:53 PM »
Any thoughts on when the bay will freeze up this year?? Last year I beleive it was around the last weekend of January, which is about standard.

With these temps we have been having it will be soon. There's been skim ice and blow ice in areas lately so I would put money on it freezing within a week or two.

This is good news. ;D  Some friends and I will be up there Superbowl weekend.  We usually fish all day for Splake and Whities and then fish a few hours after dark for Burbot.

Oh yeah,  They really bite after dark.   We use the Glo Perch Buckshot Rattle Spoons with a minnow on it.  Just charge it up with a flashlight and then just jig it off the bottom.  They don't strike like a normal fish.  There strike more closely resembles how a carp sucks in a hook.

well i think most people prolly fish eggs on bottom for the whities. the splake should have been very aggressive. did you fish off the anna or out by sunset motel? i caught all my whitefish yesterday jigging with a tiny tungsten jig tipped with a piece of waxworm. watched hundreds of them on the camera. marked em all day rolling around on bottom with the vexilar too.

Most people fish whitefish, menominee, and herring this time of the year at the anna, with some splake being caught too. You usually don't catch coho in the bay until spring.

Anyone having any luck? Past few days haven't been too productive for me but still icing some whitefish in the 10-14 inch range. Should be getting keepers in the next few days with a change in the weather.
