I imagine at any given time there is a cow laying down somewhere,  so i say the fish are biting when a cow is laying down...

My mom always said "its going to rain" anytime she would notice the cattle bunched up in a corner of the fence.  I never really paid attention to see if it had any truth to it.

I always heard that rain was coming if the majority of a herd of cattle was laying down.

I have heard that and paid attention to it at times and I have noticed that fishing typically is not great when they are laying down.

They've never seen ice and have no way of finding the truth.    :woot:

The observational skills of "Major/Minor" feeding times are also lacking.

Solunar tables are another unknown factor.

I would not be taking ice fishing advice from anyone who hails from Arkansas ???

The only place that fish never bite is on your couch, in front of your tv.  ;)

Unless you have a really awesome permy.... of course.

True... but the cattle don't lay down all day, and you might catch one or two while the cattle are laying down... but it's a safe bet to say that fishing will be S-L-O-W.

Cows keep moving when they are hungry, They lay down when they are content and have full bellies.

I think this was posted not long ago.Anywho, all animals are blessed with the ability to recognize weather changes, storms and fronts. Many people pay attention to wildlife to predict the best times to be out,Have you ever seen the moon phase /best times to hunt or fish charts?.....same thing!

This is absolutely tied to a fair amount of truth.  I have grown up around cattle ranches and dairy farms my entire life.  The land we lease is from a very old, very wise rancher that has seen many many years of nature working in it's own way and moving to it's own rhythm.  If the majority of your livestock are laying down then a front is moving in, the barametric pressure is dropping, and the weather is probably going to get worse.  It is also facinating to see that many of them will lay in the same direction and prepare for the wind that usually accompanies this change.  In Florida and the gulf states it has been well documented that gators, gar, sharks, and other predatory fish begin to move to more protective waters and don't feed when a storm is coming.  Don't ever discount old wive's tales just because they sound funny.

I enjoyed my first 28 years in FL, Bquick. Left a few old(now) wives there, too.    :woot:

And, as you say, these things have been observed by many, back when we lived closer to the earth.    ;)2
