Ice conditions near south bend
« on: Jan 02, 2013, 05:09 PM »
Hey all, brand new here, just wanted to pitch in on ice conditions around the michiana area. Drilled a fee holes at my local spot only about 30 ft. out, ice is measuring 2 1/2". Hiking at potato creek in the morning, will check ice there and at north chain lake as well.

Welcome!  It sure will be nice when we have good ice at Tater creek,  its a great place to take friends fishing.  Always can seem to catch a bunch, no matter who you are,  they just aren't that big though.

Seems to be that way in all the area lakes in my parts. Summer bass is usually great, but the panfish, crappie, and perch are always dinks. Still makes for a fun time when your constantly pulling something in.

Went to potato creek last night, three guys out by the nature center. I drilled about 4" but that's the only area with decent ice. The entire lake was locked up as of last night, but only 75% of the lake was open Monday night, so I'd assume its thin yet. Headed there Saturday morning!
