Tricked out portable shanty tips
« on: Dec 26, 2012, 03:36 PM »
I bought a new Shappell FX100 portable ice fishing shanty and i just got done putting it all together. I want to know what you guys do, to "PIMP OUT" your portable ice fishing shack. What are some "must have's" I should have inside the shanty.  If you have any great idea's or some good pictures , I would like to see them. Thanks in advance for the information.

I do all types of fishing; but I am Die hard Ice angler.
I love Ice Fishing the lakes of Rutland County. Recently moved to NY and now will be Ice fishing the Lakes Of New York.

I don't think I would consider this pimped out, but my buddy has a portable that's something like 6 x 10 or so.  He is buying a second one, and apparently they are made to hook together.  One will be the kitchen, and the other will be the bedroom so he and the boys can stay out over night.  Cardboard for the floor is their thoughts, folding table to put the Coleman on, Buddy heater, lights, ect.
Silly rookies, traps are for animals!!  Tilts are for kids!!  Fishermen use tip ups!

some led lights would be a good add on for low light fishing  :icefish:

This thread was really beneficial for me so I wanted to revive it to see what's else is out there.

I just received my clam hub wall shelf today in the mail but I'm curious what other accessories or DIYs you guys might know about

Post pics if you can!

Ps: any chance this topic could get moved to the "ice shack tips" section?

I bought waterproof LED strip lights 16 feet long, looks like a roll of 8mm movie film, for 12 bucks on Amazon, they are 12 volt DC lights so they run of an ATV battery.I used wire ties to secure them  to the shanty tubing to reinforce the adhesive they already have on them, works great,I make rod holders from 1 1/4 PVC tubing, you can flatten out PVC by placing it in boiling water and then pressing it in a vise.then bend it to the right angle and drill holes in it to fasten it to shanty

Yes, I bought the led rope lights and wired three strands together with one 8 foot wire leader to hook to the battery. Use Velcro straps to hold the lights along the poles. Works great and plenty of light for whatever you want to do inside.

That sounds interesting. I'd like to give something like this a try. Do you guys have pics of your led setups?

I don't have any pics but next time I go out (which would be the first time this season...ugh) I'll try to get some.

Just bought mine today!  Search YouTube for shanty mods, or ask thebigwiggle for a link to his video.  There's tons of pics and videos that should help.

I have three magnetic leds that I made a hanger for that dangle from the top hub of my wide house 6500 like a chandelier. The cool thing about them being magnetic is you can aim them at your holes when night fishing. Works well for my needs. Just a tip
