« on: Dec 17, 2012, 08:47 PM »
Heading north weds to bitter lake. Never fished it. From the KC area and I got that itch to be on hard water before Xmas:) I was told they have good perch and eyes. If anyone can give me any help on the ice or where to stay I would been every thankful. I am heading in to this blind, just want to get on ice :)

My best advice would be to not fish Bitter Lake.

Does anyone have any advise for fishing Bitter? Taking the kids up there next weekend over Christmas break. Any advice on ice conditions, or how deep to look for the perch? Not looking for any secrets, just a solid place to start to get the boys on some perch and maybe some walleye. Thanks in advance for any help!

Before I head for that area of the state I listen to the fishing report from the Sportsman's Cove in Webster. Folloe the instructions if you have questions for someone at the baitshop. 605 345 2468 Hope you and the boys have a great time while there.

Thanks ice dawg. Just called and sounds like the bite is going pretty good. I think my boys are looking forward to the ice fishing more than Christmas!

A good place to check current ice conditions/fishing report for NE SD call Sportsman's Cove in Webster (605) 345-2468. They have a recorded report that is updated a few times a week.

I was out there monday by the southeast boat ramp. Ice was 10-12 inches. A lot of of permies and trucks were on the ice in the bay but I didn't see anyone venture out to the main part of the lake. I am not sure what the ice conditions are outside of the bay.

Dont be afraid to drill, drill, drill and drill some more.  You have to find the perch.  Once you find them the hard work is over.  We fished away from most people this weekend, really most people had to drive by us on the lake on the South end to get where they were heading.  We had good luck but like I said we drilled a lot of holes.  I posted a few pictures in the other bitter forum also.  Good luck and any advise I can give ya just ask.

Good Luck to everyone going this coming weekend.
Weather might be a little wacky.
1/10 - Thursday 32 degree's with 30% chance of rain to snow.
1/11 - Friday 24 degree's with about 20% chance of snow.
1/12 - Saturday 13 degree's with 50% chance of snow.
1/13 - Sunday 12 degree's

Dose the snow or rain cause the fishing to do any weird stuff.
I know I was up there last year and the Heavy Fog made it hard to fish for some reason.

As for water clarity we where in 12-14 FOW and with hut up you could look down the hole and see your lure just sitting on the bottom.  I couldn't believe how clear it was.

Going up next week, Spark! Sounds like you went in the State boat dock on the SE corner. We don't usually go that way, but tempted to try sometime. Always done well doing just what you said (drill, drill, drill) You see any of the lake shrimp on the bottom?

Herm that's where we were at.  Never did see any shrimp this time.  Didn't use the camera much either. Last year the shrimp came out the holes when drilled so not sure where they went maybe up North.

We fished north in December, and saw them coming out of the perch, when we caught them, but not coming out the holes like last year as you noted. Guys were telling us, they saw them all on the bottom with thier cameras especially on that east bay where loads like to fish. We're fishing our way to the big Gull Lake tournament in Brainerd Minn next week. Hopefully won't get blown off the lake next wed. My Accu weather is not being too nice to me?
