It will work but it is more likely to burn through your hands.

Wear gloves and you should be alright. You may have a problem with it freezing to the ice real quick if you take too long getting back in the water.

Give it a try, but like it has been said, wear gloves to prevent cuts, and burns.

I've tried it and like others have said wear gloves! I got a real nasty cut from a 10lb pike when I tried bare handed. And it freezes a lot quicker when out of the water than darcon. Not worth it IMO.

i use gorilla braid and no problems. if line freezes, put it back in the water and it unfreezes. no line cuts, but that might be cuz i don't catch 15# fish! with that thought, i'd love to get a line cut!

Gloves are a good idea but during warmer weather I have started taping my joints. Most of the time for me on cuts its the first finger were the line is between your thumb and finger. Electrical tap or athletic tape works great.

I have been using 50lb P-Line braided line on several of my tipups for years. Going with a 65lb is even better because it adds diameter. I would leave it on, it will last for a lot of years.

I MUCH prefer dacron. No cut or burned hands, easier to handle, less tangles, easier to cut and retie if needed, more secure knots.

I use 30, or even 50lb squidding line, I believe it is called. No mess, freezes flat, cant be broken. Can be bought in wallyworld out here. It may also be called something like sand? line.
