Low water at pactola
« on: Oct 14, 2012, 09:24 PM »
Hey, new guy here.  Just heard about this site and was very eager to register.

Anyway, just cruised by Pactola yesterday for the first time in a few months.  I'm gonna have to find some new hot spots in Jenny with the water being so low.  Anyone have an official number for how much lower it is?  Looks to me like my normal spots gonna be about six inches deep this winter, lol.

If you look on the Pactola page theres a bunch of info about locations. As for me I like to fish around the dam side in the deeper water. I just look for stair stops on the graph. I like small flat area to set up. I use a GPS with a chip and just drill out flat spots or break areas.

Pac is 89.4% of full but do not remember what it was last fishing season.  They are very slowly filling it though.  As for fishing the lake I use the method as appleye.

It can get a LOT lower, I'd think if it gets hard enough this year it will still be good.

Atleast they are not hug lakes and you have to worry about breaking off and floating down stream lol. Had that in Michigan every year, you had to watch the wind. Ice would separate at a pressure crack and you would be floating down river on a chunk of ice the size of a couple football fields lol

from averages, the current pool elevation is sitting at 4570.0 Ft.  Last year, February had an average elevation of 4576.81 ft, and 4577.6ft in March, so your looking at about a 7' drop from last year's pool elevation, as of today.

Fished Saturday afternoon by South Launch.  Caught two pike right away on minnows.  A 5lb and a hammer.  My boys saw lots of trout so I think they just stocked?   I hate low water there but I have had my best luck with pike when the water was lowest.
