I would like to catch perch and pickeral through the ice.. but so far have been unsuccessful in the valley.. guess i will have to wait till summer..
I come from Sask.. and when ice fishing starts there you can go to any lake.. here in NS you can only fish 4 lakes and they are far away and suck..lol

Wow that's a fatty nice fish man !!!! Well I don't think we will have any safe ice after this week so it's good you got out.we where out Sunday and got some good sized picks on fish lake but the ice was starting to get pretty seedy!!!!

I wouldn't be on the ice after this weekend and if you do go , KEEP checking the ice every 10 feet or so just to be safe.

Thx for the pics KHILL, I used to live in PEI, and seeing those smelt brought back some good memories. Now adays, yes I want to catch enough eaters to have a good meal but I am obsessed with catching BIG fish. Your pics brought me back to a time of innocence and trying for some trout in the streams of PEI. I noticed you call chain pickerel just pickerel, and in Manitoba, well, we can pickerel, walleye and sometimes pickerel. Your chain pickerel is closer to a pike than walleye. Anyway keep posting those pics from the future.

Nice looking mixed bag of fish, way to go KHILL.

Those smelts sure look different from the ones that are sold commercially here in SK. Those guys you have out there are way bigger, longer and darker.

It's too bad good Canadian smelts are not sold in stores.

Do you guys eat the smelts or use them for fish bait? $:-\$
