Ice Fishing for 14 Jan and i have a few questions.
« on: Jan 11, 2012, 02:30 PM »
Hi,

Due to my last deployment i missed Ice fishing last year. So im looking for a few pointers to get me back on track.

1. How thick is the ice at lake champlain at the alburg/swanton bridge?

2. Have Suckers (bait) been working well for pike?

3. And any pointers for getting some walleye?

Anything else you can think of to help me get some fish?!?!

i could be wrong but i think the sucker rule has been changed from what i hear. I don't think i've seen any bait shops selling any.

Alburgh-swanton bridge: 9-10", 4-wheelers all over except right near the bridge (obviously). I've already got a shanty out and the perch action has either been really hot or none at all, no walleyes spoken of yet. We've been getting our pike on dead/dying shiners and dink perch...

you are correct we VT bait shops can't sell suckers or purchase them.. I believe NY shops can sell them.

Thanks for the input, im glad to hear ice is good out there. During normal fishing season i catch lots of pike there so i am hoping to catch a few this weekend. And also heard highgate fishing is really good right now. Disappointed that i cant get suckers but oh well guess it minnow time :)
