My last trip down there was 6-8 depending on where you were on the bay. More ice in the northern parts of the bay less near sauders point and south.. Numbers have been decent for me and my buddies 20-24.. A few nice pike also... some smaller throwbacks scattered in depends on where you go

They are now fishing south of saunders point. Was out their tonight. AbouT 5-7 inches of ice. fishing is slow. saw some fish caught, but not a whole lot. One guy caught 3 on a red jigging rap. No luck for me. Had some misses on a glow perch jigging rap and a glow green puppet minnow.

I expect there will be some truck traffic on the north end this weekend. I saw my first vehicle on the ice out in front of kipling and saw some more tracks up by the yellow gate. Most places I fished had 8-12" of ice yesterday. The lower bay finally froze up a few days ago and will hopefully be fishable next week. I walked out from the yacht harbor and there was a good 2-3", hopefully the weather stays cold

I would like to head down their next week sometime..... I have never been, and I don't know where I find the yellow gate. How can I get to it off the road? Is their any "landmarks" I should look for so I know where to turn. Either the yellow gate or in Kipling, let me know how I can find it! Thanks!

See this link for the Google Maps view.

http://g.co/maps/upvnv

It's about where it transitions from high ground to lower ground on Bay Shore Drive. There is another access, just north of the Days River at the nature trail. Also a yellow gate... This area used to be known as "Nelsons" back when you could drive through a guys yard, who was a Nelson. Go figure eh?

Be watchful of the ice off the mouth of the Days River.

Thanks for the info guys...I'm hoping to make a trip there next weekend (14th-15th) and hoping i can drive my car off the kipling launch near the bait shop. Any hotels right in kipling where I could get a room for a night?

We stayed at the Terrace Bay in Gladstone. They have a fish cleaning station. The hot tub was nice after being on the ice. They also have a bar and restraunt in the hotel. Really good perch.  Also the Bay View is really close. That is a sweet little tackle shop. Chris was full of info. They have a hotel connected as well. I only imagine that they have a fish cleaning station as well, but don't know for sure. Good luck. Let us know ho you do

North end of the bay has too many people. You need to head south.

I would hit up either of the bait shops bayshore or bayview and get some current info from them,, I would try hunters point or Saunders point or venture south. There is starting to get more activity off the Gladstone marina... Lots of people on the north end of the bay from Saunders North like woody said

My brother Kenneth caught his limit this evening, so I guess the walleye are biting. I have some catching up to do now!!! He was fishing in about 30 feet of water and his best lures were the Holographic Blue/Green and the Holographic Purple Ice Darter (if I remember right). Age thing...Kevin Lee
