Snowmobile Ice Scratchers....
« on: Dec 19, 2011, 08:46 PM »
My ice is good, but you could skate across the lake. There is not so much as a flake of snow right now, and my mode of transport is Polaris Indy 500 liquid. It is studded and has carbide runners, so it does much better than an ATV on this glare ice, but it can run hot pulling my Voyager.

Has anyone installed a set of scratchers on a liquid cooled snow machine for running them on ice? How did they work? Was there a downside? Frame or suspension mount?

I am super handy if anyone has a home baked method

These arewhat I run on my sled.
They are made of stainless wire with aluminum ends and a carbide track pick.

They aren't cheap but they are lightyears better than the spring steel scratchers and don't get wrecked if you back up.    ;)2

Mine are suspension mounted  but they can also install on the tunnel.
They have worked fine for me so far and have not had any over heating or slider melting issues since installing them.
My sled is an '08 Yamaha RS Venture GT 1000cc liquid cooled machine.   ;D

Have seen pictures of homemade versions were a hole is drilled through the tail of the skis and a bolt is nutted on sticking down. I imagine a couple of carbide studs would work nicely. I have yet to have good ice without snow, so haven't tried it personally.

I ordered these for my sled, they had to be reverse compatible for me or I know I'd wreck them. They haven't showed up yet, but everyone seemed happy with them on the reviews I've seen.

Thanks guys... Reverse is not an issue for me, but your links gave me an idea! I hope this will not be a permanent thing. I may just jolly rig something up.

Thanks for the link.... We got some snow on the ice now, but this will be a mod I make over the summer.

I finally found all the parts. You can order that uhmw from McMaster Car, couldn't find it locally.
