You must be looking at a different forcast than I just saw.... local news just said warming up a bit for the first couple days of the week then back to highs in the low 20's by the end of the week.

Hear me out.  How about one 90 degree day to melt all this nasty crap away so we can start over with no snow.

We had good clear ice down here.... if its get warm enough to open the lakes back up all the way then we may be OK..... but i have seen this before when it gets to 31, 29, 27 maybe even 18 at night  then warms up during the day cold enough to kind of re freeze the slush and grap on top then melt and re freeze. even later in the year when we get back to  zero or below if air and slush is stuck in the ice we get Honeycomb ice. I have seen people break though 10 inches if that kind of "honeycomb" ice.....  I telling you the season could be over if the wrong things happen while the ice is just forming. You guys already dodged a bullet with the last snow.... we did not get that wet snow south of Lincoln. but we are looking at now could make the ice unfishable all winter.......   It would not be the first time this happened in this fishing wasteland we call Nebraska

Pretty dangerous guys.  This stuff gets honeycombed or blows out partially and turns into a puzzle of chunks...it's very touch and go.  I would drill a lot of test holes and def. thow in a rope with a cushion on the end.  Drawdowns and ramps with run off will be especially worthy of a second glance.

Looks like I will have to take an early vacation and go north.  Not looking very good right now.  Just hope that the lakes open up before the weather turns.

Unfortunately our temps in eastern nebraska aren't improving over the next 10 days and 2 of those days there is going to be rain.  I hope that they are wrong about the forecasts  havent even been out yet.

Honestly, at this point, 2 days of rain with these temps is exactly what we need.  Ma' Nature needs to melt this crap ice off and start fresh.

That's the deal its not going to get back to being cold any time soon..... when you look at the long range temps it all 20s and 30s that is fine to maintain good ice but no way will that make good ice....  we need 7 to 10 days in the teens and single digits.    I know nobody wants to hear this but i say we don't get on the ice before Jan. 15... And if we dont get a good melt and get back to open water.... We wont be ice fishing at all.....

Shoot, I spent way too much money on gear this year to NOT get on the ice.... I'll drive to Canada if I have too.....

But, really, except for a couple of coming days, we will be having somewhat "Normal" temperatures for the area. Maybe the ice has been coming early lately and everyone is just spoiled.
