Ice predictions!!
« on: Nov 26, 2011, 08:20 PM »
Last year was my first year ice fishing and it was awesome, I am seething at the teeth waiting for some ice! When do u Connecticut ice fishing veterans believe will see some frozen gold?

My prediction is December 17th

How about urs?
Fishing is a sport in which thinking is involved it is the covenant between nature and man, mother and son. Through fishing only can we recreate the link that has been tarnished throughout the existence of the modern era of mankind. Fishing is the answer yet people ignore it and consider it a "stupid" thing to do. What do these people do instead? They stare in front of color changing boxes. Is that life? My life is fishin

We're usually in the window where someone skitters out onto Wood Creek around now. My guess is that place is a couple weeks out still. 1 more month until ice?

If I can't sneak out on early ice in the beginning of December, my season won't start till after Christmas.

Later and later.....check out some Internet sites. Lake Champlain has lost 30 days of ice since the 1800's (starting later/finishing earlier). Old timers in Pennsylvania say they have lost 19 ice days since the 1950's. Freakin' climate change :(....no matter what you think the cause is/is not.

Thanks jebra... Now I'm going to go get drunk and hang myself in a closet with a lamp cord.

I'll leave the door key under the mat if anyone wants to come over and get my ice gear before the CSI guys show up. ;)

Ive heard stories from old guys from the poconos area about being on the ice consistently before thanksgiving back in probably the 50s or 60s. Then again a few years back they were out in pa on 11/22.

Hi,

Last ice fishing season, very cold with too much snow on top of ice.
Dragging thru that much snow, digging down thru 2 feet of snow to the ice, then drilling thru 16 + inches of ice -> Lost a lot of good ice fishing days -> "More Work than Fun!" :%$#!:

This season (per the predictions I've been reading) will start late - end early and may be quite wet.  >:(
Not very promising ???
All we can do is wait and hope for the best.

Oh! Everyone be very carefull on "any 1st ice" -> Also known as "Widowmaker Ice" -> Rule of thumb= 3" or better, safety gear, and fish with a friend!

Don't do it Trooper....you're the most reliable ice guy out there! :)
Hell, who knows, maybe these reports are "dead wrong" anyway. No pun intended!
And if they happen to be accurate, we'll just have to get some scientists to figure out a way to cool things down and get our ice back!!!

Oh yea here we go,kinda funny that we can be more excited to walk on water than being with our wives! :o Let us all throw caution to the wind and not try to become a statistic, after all, santa is supposed to get me a new vex. Not gonna do me any good if i'm at the bottom of highland lake :'( Heck, when i plan my first ice trip i might bring the boat along just in case! ;D Can always do "open water" tipups just like Blaine has done on the river ;) Think ice!!!

We can only hope so. If not, it's time to get a license up north and make a road trip.
Any of our northern neighbors want to host a few flat landers.

well i was hoping for the same as last year which was the 18th of December for me, but i think we will have to wait a Lil longer this season. these temps are a Lil bit mild so far and i think its not gonna be ready until the end of the year. i will predict that wood creek will be the first ice to be adventured on though.

I was on Bantam December 22, 2010 with about 4 inches. Janurary 3, 2011 Winchester had over a foot of black ice.  :-\ Christmas Day there will be ice on the good lakes.

Last year I was on a no named pond with metalfish December 11th.  That obviously didn't happen this season...

I do know that I'll be on that same pond before wood creek freezes.

Good luck Blaine.  I'm not in that much of a hurry to drown.
