BLACK LAKE:Never fished this lake before but looking to hit some hardwater next week (hopefully) and am pondering Black as a possible destination before I tie a rope to a tree, light a cigarette with a blindfold and inch my way out on the St. Lawrence. My question is where would my safest (ice conditions / 1st ice wise) bet be on that lake also I hear that access is limited as well. Interested in gill and crappie action, any info appreciated.
I doubt you will find a way onto Black Lake next week. Possible, if the forecast changes; but not too likely. What iced over Saturday night is now all but gone with this wind and heat.
HERE WE GO!A buddy of mine calls and says "what are you doing tommorrow ?" I says why ? He says" We just got done checking for ICE and we have 1" of solid ice in this particular bay on the St. Lawrence and he says we are heading there in the morning" He continued to say you will need to wear hip waders because there is about 6 feet from the bank to the 1" thick ice . Now I LOVE ICE FISHING as much as anyone but when I hear I will need hip waders to get to 1" of ICE, well I AM OUT...... I told them to call me and let know how they do, if they are still alive ??Crazy chances I will not take. 3" solid ice is the minimum I will fish on and even then someone bigger then me (I am 210lbs) will be leading the way! Can't wait for the call tommorrow to see how it went.
Planning a trip to chaumont or guffin this season for some eyes . I live over by champlain and lake george ,thought about getting a few guys together to make the the treck west if i get some takers maybe we can put together a iceshanty meet and greet on the ice i think prchslyr would be game and a few others i you guys would have the company.
I'd enjoy meeting some folks from the shanty over here, we'll get a group of guys together and pound some perch, bbq up some venison and shoot the bull. if ya'll are interested think up some dates and I'll keep ya posted on the fishing conditions.
I'll be up for that one - keep us posted.btw - I heard the other day that the perch were getting "beat to death" in the bay by soft water guys! The story I heard was: to the tune of $600/day worth by some enterprising individuals!
Fishforpike are you talking about Chaumont? If so I herd the samething
Amen Freddie . Anyone who thinks you make 600 a day every day is sadly mistaken . And to you're point of sport I would hassard a guess sport has little to do with it it is a job , a perfectly legal one at that .
thanks dots and f&l for what u said i will say i do fish for them for money and what some people don't understand that its not a given every day job u may get them one day and not the next and 600$ is a little over the hill may be two people together yes but one person no , myself average 100to 175 lbs and the high num is alot of work for one man . this is how i pay my bills and live so some people need to think before they talk , and its getting better now than what it was 5years ago more and bigger fish and many diff year classes to boot just my .02
Does anyone have an safe ice in the north country to report? I'm headed to watertown for xmas shopping today. Thinking about checking out a few locations on the way. If I find anything worth reporting i'll post. Today's goal, make it out of gander mountain without putting the ol bank account into the red. doubtful but its a goal worth working towards
