Using fly reels
« on: Sep 06, 2011, 05:17 PM »
I've seen people use fly reels on their ice rods and I'm thinking about trying that set up this upcoming season. Any info about it like pros on cons or how it compares to a spinning reel?

Only thing that I can think of is less line retreve in deeper water. I personally don't care for fly reels on my ice rods, I also don't fish deeper than 14 feet. Good luck and keep us posted.

dido beever i was going to say the same thing.  I was thinking of trying one on one of my rods if i can find a used one at the flea market.

did you ever use a camera and watch your jig and see it spinning freely at the end of your line.  it is because of how the line twists onto the reel on your spinning rod during your retrieve.  I have actually watched fish come in really interested in the jigs and look like they get bored waiting for it to stop spinning.
