Busting Shantys Out
« on: Feb 25, 2011, 04:57 PM »
Hey guys, just wondering if anyone's got a slick way of getting solidly frozen shantys off the ice?
I got one really buried and am not really sure what to do, we worked on it for a few hours today with all kinds of tools and didnt get too far
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Gasoline and spark! JK! We chisel as much out as possible and then wrap chains around it. Then a car, ATV, or snowmobile usually does the trick. This year we've tried to stay on top of moving it each trip and blocking it up....
I'll keep my guns, freedom, and money. You can keep "The Change"

If you do it on a half way decent day putting a little bit of water to it helps loosen it up.

saw one a few years ago that was froze in pretty good & the guys sprinkled sidewalk salt around it(not sure if its legal) gave it a day or so & pulled it out without to much problem.
A bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at work

We've used the chain saw method several times. Cut around the shack making sure the sides increase in width slightly as you cut towards the front. Then recut the front with the saw blade on an angle. Pull out that piece of ice in the front. Hook onto the shack and it will slide right up the incline you created. Be sure to flag the hole you leave behind!!!

1) chisel all around..
2) chisel pocket under corners.
3) set bottle jacks under corners and apply pressure evenly.
4) listen closely for sounds of cracking.
5) stop and wait-it'll pop up.
