Extended stay?
« on: Feb 23, 2011, 05:07 PM »
If the veterans out there would help me out. If you were to choose a Montana lake(s) for a two-three day icefishing/camping trip where would it be? Looking for safe ice, good camping spots, and a diversity of species in the water. Hope I am not being too picky, but trying to plan for a few weeks from now. Thanks!

Within a 1 hour drive of Kalispell you have your choice of dozens of lakes, and almost any species of fish that swims in MT. That coupled with the lids that are on the lakes now, and this new cold snap, barring a complete turn-around in the weather, we could have good ice into late April.
There are so many things that are true, even if they never really happened

What part of the state? Interested in night fishing?
If night works, head to Middle Thompson, salmon at night, then pike, bass, perch
rainbows and lake trout during the day. That's pretty versatile.
They have 4 camp spots plowed out and its half price over the winter, and the crapper has running water and is heated!
Get bit!

Fort Peck all the way. We used to do a 4-5 day trip there every year, always tuned up on the walleyes, sauger, northerns, and ling. Throw in the lakers and perch and it is a great multi-species trip.
