What's your "handle" (or story behind it)?
« on: Feb 19, 2011, 08:44 PM »
Some are simple. Some are deep. Some may be sentimental. Others you got know clue where they came from. Some are quite clever. (You gotta think someone had waaaaay too much free time on their hands to have thought it up -

I'm referring to their Ice Shanty "handle"

Is there a story behind yours? - let's hear it . . .

As for mine - Reelcharacter -

Reel - my love of fishing and fishing "reel"

Character - A while back The Boy Scouts of America ran a slogan "Character Counts", around which time my three sons each achieved Eagle Scout rank. I try and hope each will demonstrate good character in their lives.

The two words placed together "reelcharacter" take on a double meaning.

And put a pole in my hands and I can be a reelcharacter . . .  :)

So - what's the story behind your "handle" ?
PM me to swap information on fishing holes or to go fish'in sometime in the Syracuse Central NY area (Onondaga and Madison county water holes in particular).

Been a lot of places in between, but always loved the North Country and what it has to offer. First name is David...It just works for me.

My kids always called me "Mr. Fixit". RG...my initials. I can fix most anything ;D

Reelcharacter, 3 Eagle scouts? You're one heck of a good dad to raise 3 boys with that much direction. My congratulations to you.

crayfishbob   --   I raise crayfish for baitshops. I had blue ones in one pond. I stocked all blue ones in a pond and got all blue ones back- thousands of them. Went to a pet shop with them only to find out they had another specie of blues for $20.00

I decided to start www.bluecrayfish.com  I got hundreds of e-mails asking questions about crayfish, so I started a forum at : www.bluecrayfish.com/forum and that's my handle.

I took up goose hunting a few years ago, but it's more like I go out and honk at the geese (not much luck).  Hence the name goosehonker.

About 16 years ago I left a message with a new friends teenage daughter to have him call me...."Dad, some guy called" great, do you remember the name. "Tom" great, look honey, I know about 30 Tom's...did he give you a last name? "yeah...it sounded like hollywood or something like that"
And it stuck, I like it much better than other things I've been called.  :P

When I started as a Correction Officer some years ago at change of shift I would yell down the tier LOCKDOWN (loud and long). So after a few months that's what the inmates would call me Lockdown. 199 is my badge #.

I have no nickname, but my friends always would say, where are we going Captain, lead us to the fish Captain, what are you using Captain and so on,so it stuck for an ice fishing name.I joined IceShanty when I was 54 years old, hence Captain 54,that was 4 years ago and 1300 post later.

(WalPerPike), That's what I fish for, Walleye, Perch, and Pike. I only want to catch what I like to clean and eat, so I do not keep too many Gills and could care less if I ever caught a trout or salmon. I learned a long time ago that Northern Pike under 30", fileted with the y-bone removed was one of the best eating fish around. That comes from a childhood of shore dinners on the mighty St. Lawrence.
WalPerPike out!!!!!!!!!!!!!
