Trout magnets?
« on: Feb 10, 2011, 12:01 PM »
anyone ever use these?  Saw that Wally World had some on clearence for 1/2 buck a package.  Bought some but when I got home I noticed that they have a cheese smell applied to them.  Wondering if they would repel crappies and gills.  Wantd to try plastics this year so I thought that they might be the ticket or am I'm wasting my time.  Will give them a try anyway.  Just can't justify spending $4.50 for 5 bodies and a jig for plastics designed for ice fishing.

Never tried the cheese flavor, so I can't comment there....
but when I was a kid growing up 'trout magnets' were all we used for gills & crappie, except we called them 'split-tails'.
Never heard them called 'trout magnets' til I was in my 20's.
Always worked for us.
If you ever get hit with a bucket of fish, be sure to close your eyes. ;)

i've got them in my tackle but i've never had anything interested enough to bite...  i've caught a couple dink perch but they will bite anything with color and a waxworm.  I have a multi pack with all different colors and have given them all a couple casts!

The red ones work good for gills when you cut them down a little.  The Jig heads with only a grub also work great for panfish.
